BARB now lists the channel as more>movies/movies mix, don't think there is any doubt they are run by the same people.
Although they won't deal with the public if they are only acting as a content supplier to Square 1.
Obviously the programme content is the same but the most recent licence variation listed by Ofcom was only the name change Big Deal to Movie Mix, Square 1 still being listed as the licence holder.

Has ofcom listed the name change to more>movies yet?

The December bulletin lists the change from Big Deal to Movie Mix. January's bulletin may tell us more when released, unless Square 1 keeps the licence a bit longer as part of the gradual change of the channel to keep Digital UK (as EPG controllers) happy.

Although Ofcom have withdrawn licences where the licensee isn't actually in editorial control (admittedly, under somewhat different circumstances). What keeps Digital UK happy might not keep Ofcom happy. It will certainly be interesting to see any changes listed in the January bulletin.
It could just be Sony Pictures Television leasing the space from Square 1 to test how popular the service will be on freeview. As there has been no publicity for this new channel, it's difficult to know what is happening.
Technically, the channel stream still looks like a teleshopping channel, with no additional subtitle / AD streams linked to it.

Most of the low viewer i.e. sub 500,000 daily reach channels on satellite don't have subtitles, none of the CBS/Horror channels do, or True Movies/Entertainment.
EDIT: I see ofcom has a code for Freeview channels to implement subtitling, 10% of programming after 1 year, rising to 35% in the third, 60% in the fifth, 70% in the 7th, and 80% in the 10th.
More>Movies also has teleshopping during those hours.
I haven't looked in on the channel yet but I guess they must be using the big gaps after one movie/series ends and the next starts as the TV Guide shows solid programming during their 10am - 2am slot.

They usually show 'Sony Movie Previews' in the gaps between films. Teleshopping runs from 1 or 2am until 10am.

It was just an observation that there are no streams linked to allow the provision of these services. The same applies to Food Network.
Quite a few channels have the streams available but don't make much use of them.

I meant that both channels show teleshopping at the same time, from the end of scheduled programmes until 10am.
Movie Mix used to show JCM Direct overnight but that stopped when the More>Movies content started. Can anyone confirm whether or not Movie Mix now carries the same infomercials as More>Movies overnight?
the channel is fully owned by square 1 sony have said they rent the shows to them and don't have control over it so if people want to contact them about the logo here is the details : info@sq1.co.uk
Channel 32 ( Movie Mix) remains owned and operated by Square1, not Sony. We are supplying a programming block for Movie Mix. No more news as yet about a permanent move to Freeview.

Could it be they are waiting to see how much the BARB viewing figures increase to see if it would be worth buying the slot outright? I presume Square 1 get the income from the ads & teleshopping till then?
Received this reply from Sony TV after asking if there was any plans to change the Movie4Men & More>Movies channels to Sony branding.
Hi xxxx,
Sony Pictures Television operates well over 100 channels around the world, under a variety of names. In the UK market, Movies4Men is an established brand so we don’t currently have any plans to change it.
Could it be they are waiting to see how much the BARB viewing figures increase to see if it would be worth buying the slot outright? I presume Square 1 get the income from the ads & teleshopping till then?
I would think Square 1 are getting some form of income from the arrangement. They have increased their hours from 3-5am to a 24 hour slot recently, presumably for this venture, so they will have additional costs to cover.
There's also a possibility that Square 1 are looking at providing a movie channel, although it's a departure from their usual business model. They have experimented in the past with a pay-tv movie channel on DTT. Although it was unencrypted and hidden behind a text screen. The viewer had to purchase a PIN code to view.

This would be the same Ofcom responsible for enforcing the 50% EU-made content rule?
Or would it be the Ofcom responsible to enforcing equal training provisions across the industry?

At 9:50am this morning, both channels were showing the same teleshopping content from Thane Direct.
DigiGuide adding this channel to my listings just now was the first I'd heard of it. Interesting looking schedule for an outfit I didn't know of before now.

Same for me. Just checked the TV guide on my iPod and was just re-adding Pick TV to my list (seeing as they're now showing Game of Thrones and Touch looks interesting) when this one added itself!
It's nice to have another Movie channel added to Freeview.

Yes, in November.

As I thought, thanks for the info.
Interesting that they say no more news as yet.

Well, they have only just rebranded Men & Movies as More>Movies.
On another note, the Movies 4 Women brand has ceased to be licensed by Ofcom, according to the November bulletin.
