    Right, then ...

    'Oh, my shoes!'

I keep thinking this may come from the Hartnell Era, like Ian or Susan, who seem to have had shoe issues along the way, though not sure which story though!

And if you'd been wearing your shoes, my boy, you could have lent her hers!

That's exactly what I'd have guessed, but it's not either of them. :D

Not 5th Doctor when he left it as a clue to the route they were taking in the TARDIS trying to find the Zero Room in Castrovalva?

    The Macramé Terror? :D

Err... 5th Doctor when he was changing for the Masked Ball in The Black Orchid? No, no, if it was 5th Doctor it would have gone... Someone else in The Black Orchid? Nyssa?

    ISWYDT. :D

Well done, unless that was merely meant as a joke! :D

It's the Second Doctor in The Macramé Terror after one of the colony's spiff-up machines polishes his suede shoes to a reflective shine.

    Back to you. :)

Well done, unless that was unduly suggested by the frayed knot! :D

Yes, it's the Second Doctor after one of the colony's spiff-up machines polishes his suede shoes to a reflective shine.

    Back to you. :)

    Wha...?

That was just... there are two things I think of when I see frayed knot. The first is that terrible joke about the piece of string in a pub.
The second is a friend of mine, a lecturer in media production, who used to macramé keyrings out of old rope he finds whilst beach-combing, who's girlfriend, and daughter of Patrick Troughton, was seduced by Tom Baker whilst he, my friend, was working as a producer on one of the audio series. Hence Tom Baker is the macramé terror. My friend doesn't like to talk about it.

Bah! I was hoping someone would get confused with Ian and Barbara. :)

    Over to you, then!

OK, try this: "Why, what's so special about your Doctor? He doesn't wear some invisible shield, does he?"

That's an easy one. Dalek Invasion of Earth, Jenny to Barbara.

So near, yet so far. It was indeed 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth' - but it was Jenny speaking to Barbara. Still, that was close enough. Back to you then.

I had a slight brain fart, but corrected myself.

    OK...

Unexpected as it may be, I do have a mind of my own.

If no one else is around, I'll have another stab. Was it Kamelion from 'The King's Demons'?

It'd have to be something pretty damn devastating, I suppose...
