Really like Rhys as an actor, hopefully this will help his career to the next stage (but not sure its meaty enough)

No, it's FX in America that it will be on starting January 30. No UK channel has picked it up yet, but I would be surprised if one doesn't pick it up eventually.

Just hope it lasts longer than Rubicon did.
The Americans is closer to Homeland than Rubicon, and as much as I liked Rubicon, it is easy to see why the public embraced Homeland and rejected Rubicon. Rubicon was a little cold and abstract for the average viewer. It was a show made for the hardcore fan of the spy genre, focusing on analysis and puzzle-solving. With Homeland and The Americans, it seems care has been taken to give people relationships to root for, which is often the most important thing to female viewers -- even more important than a show's subject matter.
This is what I have to explain to OH:D
I'll definately try it then.
MoreTears -- Expert on women.;):D
24 lost me when they lost that aspect.
Good ratings for the first episode as well.
For those that will be waiting for a UK airdate - keep an eye here.
Current status is:
I love the 80's soundtrack and the nod to Miami Vice's first episode was quite cool too.
The Americans, watched the first 2, just have a little niggle in the back of my mind that it has an underlying theme of how great America is, hoping it doesn't prove to be the case and runs with the story from both sides.
Agree with CPW, love the tunes
Somebody mentioned Rubicon earlier in the thread, this reminds me of that show in the way that it's not all guns blazing bombs going off ( see Homeland Season 2).
I'm enjoying it too. I like the retro low-tech world that it is set in. It makes a refereshing change that everything isn't solved CSI-stye by a few clicks of a keyboard. The constant double-crossing and the regular use of disguises keeps you on your toes.
Also, excellent news about the second series...
It's very conflicting to be asked to root for "the baddies" - I don't know how long they'll be able to keep them even vaguely sympathetic, especially as we see more and more about how cold they can be in carrying out their missions...
