ohhhh - ummmm Clare Maguire 1st for Uk - 7th i think for Ireland
Seems to be Clare and Tone Damli. Within Temptation (10th - Netherlands),I think, the be the only other one to have made the final for a different country after winning.
La Oreja de Van Gogh (Andorra, Extremadura) Aura Dione (Denmark) Venus (Andorra) failing to make the final.
Well that's two of my reserves gone I was surprised it took this long for Rien N'est Parfait to be entered. The Young Professionals are a great pick for Israel.
Surprised to see First Aid Kit. Hope they do well!
Lithuania: Beautiful start. She has a lovely voice and I really like the piano accompaniment.
Italy: Her voice grates and it becomes a bit dull after the opening ninety seconds or so.
Azerbaijan: Their vocals compliment each other nicely hut it doesn't have a hook to draw me in.
Algeria: Nice melody and vocals but I wish it had more of a beat and the verses had more about them.
Macedonia: I love it in general but she seems to struggle with the high notes somewhat.
Czech Republic: This is ok but again lacks something to draw me in.
Monaco: I love the beat but am not such a fan of the tune.
Malta: It's a club song trying to be a pop song and doesn't really match up in either genre for me.
Tunisia: The potential is there but the rap really turned me off from it.
Denmark: Simple but effective - it's a powerful song and he sings it very well.
Moldova: Nice to see Belle Amie are getting work post X Factor. I love this one but then I loved Ionel's last song...indeed, I picked it...
San Marino: The beat is great and the tune is decent; I wasn't sure about the vocals at the start but I loved them by the end.
Ireland: Everything's pretty good about this but it's not very memorable.
Croatia: I wasn't sure about the start but once the tune and vocals kicked in I loved in. It's insanely catchy.
Sweden: Stunning; the country sway to it really goes well with their voices.
Cyprus: The opening is really strong; it loses something in the chorus but the verses are very good.
Netherlands: Another song with a country twang; I like the chorus but the verses are a bit pedestrian.
Belgium: There's something about this which pulls me in; it really stands out from the rest and the beat and tune are brilliant. The string accompaniment works well.
Israel: Fantastic start; I think they do the electronic vocals unfortunately but it's a foot tapper and it has a strong tune.
Morocco: I don't think their voices go well together and that affects the song.
Switzerland: A promising start but the chorus is too generic to be a hook IMO.
England: Another generic club song that doesn't really do anything for me, unfortunately. The verses are stronger than the chorus.
Finland: Her vocals really grate on me but the beat and tune may just carry this one through.
Russia: Very bland to me; it has nothing different about it to make it stand out.
Choose a Miracle was a great song, so interesting to see Nyusha back.
Agreed, Choose A Miracle was really great and should have done much better, the other ones she's sent haven't totally lived up to it but let's see how this one does.
Not that it matters greatly but I think the song title might be Это Новый Год or whatever the anglicised version of that is, Novogodnyaya pesnya just means 'Christmas song'.
Israel is a very good choice btw, and England's not all that bad.
Torshavn was a contest where about 10-15 of the songs in that final could have genuinely won any other contest.
I really enjoyed that contest but I listened back to that recap the other day and although there were definitely some good songs, tbh I was surprised that overall it wasn't as strong as I remembered it to be, not vastly different to the finals we have now. I think it's just that a lot of the songs seem so familiar now. Nyusha was excellent though.

As much a Google is the king at everything, translating not so. Novo = New / God = year. Of there abouts
I dunno. Upside Down would probably win, A Nos Actes Manques, Na Balkanu, Choose a Miracle, Himmel & Holle would still have a good chance...
Possibly, difficult to say, there are often a few good songs in each contest but not disagreeing that there were some good songs in that one too, it was the contest that got me interested so there are a few I feel attached to.

Then I'm confused, I knew it was a mistake not learning Russian... :D
Ah I see, from the Soviet days when they didn't have Christmas, sort of makes sense now, thanks.
