Findus Sweden facebook page is taking a real pounding, unfortunately for them (it seems like the Findus brand is licensed to completely separate companies in each country). http://www.facebook.com/FindusSverige
There doesn't seem to be a Findus UK one, at least not any more, if there was one they must have taken it down.
I see their www.findus.co.uk website now has a statement promising "Fully compliant beef lasagne will be in stores again soon.". How will we know? Will they print new "no horse" boxes up? They've not had the sense to take the lasagne off the front page of the website though.
I can't see them surviving this, I predict the Findus brand will be as visible as Shergar in Britain within six months.
Yep, it turns out that Findus Equine Foods have inadvertently been supplying 100% horsemeat lasagnes and only 60% horsemeat lasagnes for those customers of a delicate disposition.
Testing on Findus beef lasagne has revealed some of the ready meals were made entirely from horse meat, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said tonight. Shoppers who bought the lasagne products, which are made by French food supplier Comigel on behalf of Findus, have been warned not to eat them. Findus tested 18 of its beef lasagne products which found 11 meals containing 60% to 100% horse meat, the FSA said. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/02/07/findus-recalls-products-a_n_2639067.html?ncid=webmail1
Whilst the meat appears to be safe to consume, shoppers have been seriously misled about the animal origins of the meat itself. This does indicate that there are some unscrupulous subcontractors out there and that the large food firms and supermakets ought to be doing random and periodic DNA testing on the meat that is supplied to them. That will start to weed out the bad suppliers.

There is plenty of wordplay on that Swedish Findus site!
As for their British site, their claim below is looking a little hollow:
You can trust us
Our chefs take painstaking care to ensure our recipes are developed to the highest standard. We use only the best ingredients and a generous pinch of imagination in our recipes to create unique and convenient ways for you to enjoy effortlessly good food.
Their wiki page was wrecked. I wonder who was busy? The crispy pancakes were described as "Crispy Pancakes is the name of a brand of frozen savoury pancakes coated with breadcrumbs and labelled as either minced horse, three dogs, squirrel/toad/reindeer, or rat curry fillings".
Having eating horse steak in my past, I bet you can't tell the difference between beef and horse meat.
Which is why all the screeching about contamination is ridiculous. If anything its about labelling, and our cultural attitude to horses. I did enjoy Findus Crispy Pancakes as a kid though...:o

I think there is some slight concern that they could have used tainted horse meat seeing as they probably didn't do any sort of quality checks. But saying that, they could have used tainted beef and nobody would have know.

Actually youre right. Theres a concern about a drug used in horses, which I half heard on the news, called bute.
You have to wonder about the supermarket 'luxury' brands as well. They pretend you're getting something that's close to being home made when in reality you're probably getting the same old gunk in them as you would in the bargain meals but for more money.
If you look at a packet of the less expensive fish fingers you will see that they contain "100% fish". The product is often slightly grey in colour and probably includes a whole variety of fish types including those really ugly ones that nobody loves.
I think the media have slightly misjudged the situation. Of course there is a health concern if there is any possibility that phenylbutazone is present, but once that risk has been dealt with I think that members of the public who are short of cash (40% of Payday loans are being used to buy food - truly astonishing) will welcome meat products which are the equivalent of the fish products I have mentioned. A Lasagne containing "100% meat" is much more likely to be appetising than a product made from 100% beef gristle.
Why not? - If it is 100% safe. Horse Meat, Rabbit, Road Kill. (I jest, but only a little.)

I have also noticed that there's something not quite right with the pictures of the cods on the sides of their fishfinger packs either : http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=shetland+pony&hl=en&tbo=d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=-EkUUb2tA4PO0QW3rYHoDw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAA&biw=1024&bih=600#hl=en&tbo=d&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=white+welsh+pony&oq=white+welsh+pony&gs_l=img.1.0.0.10958.13262.2.14849.6.6.0.0.0.0.198.582.3j3.6.0...0.0...1c.1.2.img.2nQ31agd_jw&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bvm=bv.42080656,d.d2k&fp=dd9d14992b9d5196&biw=1024&bih=600

I have eaten Findus beef lasagne twice, only because it was always the cheapest one. It tasted absolutely disgusting...
& funnily enough I did think to myself it tasted nothing like beef
I hear Claire Blading is being lined up as their new spokeswoman.

Thought they might contain seahorses :D
That must be the seafood lasagne!:D

I have often complained to birdseye about their mince and onion pies being full of grizzle, all they do is send me a voucher for some more.
Are you serious? They are a massive frozen food company.
Surely you've had their crispy pancakes?
