On the article about Mad Fat Diary getting a second series it states:

"The first series of My Mad Fat Diary launched in January and has a current average viewership of 1.2m."

This seems surprising because i thought it was rating at about 300k... must be adding on viewers on 4OD or is it repeated a lot?

I'm sure it includes repeats or the official figures.

Agreed - I think it also tells you one million people were so disinterested in the programme they didn't care about the result. DOI is also getting little publicity in the tabloids now.I've also seen comments about the allegedly ''icey'' atmosphere between the presenters.

If it was the final, then it's a different story - if you look at BGT in 2009 and the fact they had separate shows.

Top Gear may have added almost a million on HD but that's still rather low, I don't think the show has dipped to 3m in a long time - I think CTM is a factor.

ITV, meanwhile, had a good night. DOI is around where I'd expect it to be, as with FF and Mr Selfridge.

But aside from that, some good ratings for BBC1 there, CTM doing great as always.

Should still be about 5m when HD is added in for Top Gear. I think it is being dented a bit by Call The Midwife and Dancing on Ice. Not because of audience cross over, but it depends who has control of the TV remote as to what gets watched, on the night. I think the final episode of this series Top Gear is free from Call The Midwife competition so I guess we will find out for sure then.

    How is this.....

    ......a varied schedule?

Plus every weeknight between 7pm and 9pm all C5 offers is cheap factual.

There is considerably more variety in Channel 4's schedule than there is in Channel 5's. (Note to Dancc before you go off on one. This is not a comment of quality of product. I'm merely disputed Glenn A's claim that C5 has a more varied schedule than C4)
Not "going off on one", in fact I'd have probably skipped your tedious little post had you brought my name into it, but I can't help but feel you don't know what you're talking about. The comment "cheap factual" sounds pretty dismissive to me (it's not all cheap anyway) from someone that doesn't even watch. I'd rather go by what the actual viewers are saying, and numerous people on here have said for example that C5's Brain Hospital series has been better than the BBC's Brain Doctors series. The latter goes out in the key 9pm slot whereas the former airs just outside the core viewing period.

C4 is nearly all lifestyle programming in primetime, hence I hardly ever watch it. If you're not a property-hunting money-saving food obsessive, you might as well not exist for at least a couple of hours every night. C5 shows an array of quality US drama, a variety of different documentaries, good films and other content that appeals to me more regularly.

Ouch. Predictably struggled. One of their stronger offerings and they put it there. Completely avoidable embarrassment.

I just punched the air. Also completely avoidable embarrassment but I don't care, as I bloody love this show. Much more like it for PoI! Must have been nearer 1.2 with +1 included.

Do you have the numbers for Ace Ventura as well please? And anything for 5USA which recorded its best share of 2013 yesterday (1.4%)?

    4.65m for Top Gear.

Will be over 6m officially. Brilliant stuff still in an impossible slot against the most popular show on telly and against a strong (by their standards) ITV line up.

    "Dipped to 3m", really....

I think ripper street has been broadcast on the wrong evening. It began very horrifically and would not see a follow on from the midwife audience I dont think. I think it would be better on mondays against lewis and the prison docu. The midwife audience is a great platform for whatever then preceeds it or follows it. A good place to launch new stuff in I just dont feel that ripper street was ever right coming after it
I would have stuck the monday comedy hour after it and then shetland just now

Ripper St was sunk by the BAFTAs. People didn't watch RS last Sunday and will have assumed it had finished.

No other reason for it to have dropped when it was pretty much neck and neck with Selfridge beforehand.

    The BSI boo-booed yet again...

It did look like that at first but 4.65m is still a respectable number.

No it didn't. The SD only figure was 3.63m, so nowhere near "dipped to 3m"....

    Dear Digital Spy,
If you could wake up one of your journalists out of bed and ask them to report on the death of Derek Batey (Mr and Mrs, Border TV), that would be spiffing. You don't have to wait for the Beeb or Sky to mention it first. Even if it was hours ago.
If they say "who?", tell them to ask their mum and dad.
    Rant over.

Back on topic, I see Newsnight is still listed for tonight, but don't know if previous editions were cancelled on strike days.

BREAKING NEWS: Richard Briers (The Good Life, Ever Decreasing Circles, etc) has died aged 79.
I can see a night of telly dedicated to him on BBC2 soon, and deservedly so.

Atleast Person Of Interest took a win over Channel 4's Complicit. It grew again which is good. I think and I'm not sure if this is right but Person Of Interest I think took around 1.23m last night (inc. +1).

5USA looks really strong there. CSI Sundays are very reliable and are good for people who haven't seen them all like myself.

Does anyone have access to 5*'s Wednesday night ratings? Was wondering how their advertised Wednesday night films are doing?

    Thanks.

That would have been genius scheduling and really dealt a knock-out blow to Mr Selfridge. Danny Cohen's office should be making you an offer now ...! ;)

Not sure about a knockout blow as comedy vs drama should in theory have less of an audience overlap than drama vs drama. The comedies certainly didn't seem to deliver a knockout blow to Lewis.

Mr Selfridge is doing very well with a steady 6m audience every week and consistently growing on its lead-in. Ripper Street took a knock from the week off and Mr S was comfortably ahead last night. Anyone else think that 4.7m, whilst decent, could be better considering the lead-in (especially as, unlike when ITV shows have a big lead-in there isn't a 5 minute advert break separating the two shows)? It's doing fine but it isn't outstanding.

DOI seems to have flatlined at a relatively poor level. Fine for most shows but this is down year on year again. Family Fortunes is doing pretty well though in a really tough slot. Cracking rating for Midwife which in turn boosted Countryfile nicely. Top Gear continues to do well although like DOI it seems its best days are probably behind it.

Bits and bobs from MediaGuardian (figs inc +1):

    - Toy Story 2 gets 1.2m on ITV2 in the afternoon. Must be a share of 8-9% by my reckoning. Helps the channel score 4.0% in all-day share.
    - Wigan v Huddersfield: overall av 2.5m (16.4%), match av 2.7m, 5-min peak 3.1m.
    - Chelsea v Brentford: overall av 2.2m (24.2%), match av 2.7m, peak 3.3m.
    - ESPN: Man City v Leeds: av 412k, peak 666k.

(Teams may be wrong way round as I'm not sure who was at home - or if they play at neutral grounds)
