If St Peter, who was married, was made the first pope by Jesus Christ, why are the RC clergy not allowed to marry?

In the early-mid phase of the church *no-one* was allowed to marry, even the congregation, because all the women were married to Christ, not just the nuns.

I imagine it wasn't too popular (although it's the basis for a chunk of the Catholic "Sex is evil and mucky" that still lives today.

..slightly, ever so, off topic but how can there be two living Popes?
The Pope is the Vicar of Christ on Earth.
One must have snuffed it before his successor.
    It's a nonsense otherwise.
If Dave Allen was alive, I would ask him.
    I preferred the Borgias.

Where are the two living Popes? Are you an expert in Church doctrine?

A corrupt cesspit of repressed sexuality, abuse and self-censorship.

Are you talking about the sick minds on Digital Spy? Sounds like it.

So he was manipulative and used his power to further his chances...I think that that description describes almost every man in history. Unprofessional, yes. Illegal or deeply immoral? No.

It's no different to someone senior in a business making a move on the new girl whom he has been assigned to supervise. A bit naughty, yes. But hardly a grave moral crime.
:rolleyes:I assume you are on the wind up.

What do you suggest, ECT or a sesh with me priest? And which is likely to be more damaging in the long term?

The complainant, who is now married, was then a 20-year-old seminarian at St Andrew's College, Drygrange, where O'Brien was his "spiritual director"
Had to look up "seminarian" :o... And Lord knows what a "spiritual director" is...

    Teehee :p

If you are Catholic I think you know the answer. If as I suspect you are a heathen then common decency should prevail.

I think it's rather sicker that the head of the Catholic Church in the UK is apparently sexually molesting his employees, but that might just be me.
