For me no one has ever been as closely suited to Ian as Jane was. I think it was mainly because Jane had a lot of similarities to Kathy so yo could see why Ian was attracted to her. Plus Ian and Jane worked well on an emotional level, with Cindy and Mel Ian was attracted to their looks and with Laura it was for convenience. But with Jane it was proper adult love and it's a shame that their relationship failed.
I think Mandy on reflection worked as someone who brought out Ians fun side more, I just wish it hadn't been as serious as them getting engaged.
Denise is probably my second fave partner for Ian, it's because she's not only played by a great actress, you can actually see where this relationship is coming from because it's been bubbling around for years.
