I think you would lose weight on 2000 calories a day, especially if you add in some walking. You could probably lose 1lb a week on 2000 calories at the weight you are. Use an online calculator to estimate many calories your exercise burns. If you are carrying bags or going up hills it will be more.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ is a good website, even if you can't be bothered to log your food each day have a look at it and it will work out a daily calorie goal for you, it will give you estimated calorie usage for lots of different execises too.
Just be careful though as a lot of the foods on the data base are wrongly counted, I only realised a few weeks ago but no one seems to care enough to answer my emails to them.

Need to focus on the next 10 days and drop a little more. Maybe 0.5 stone by the end of March.
Went for a first run this morning in months. To my surprise I was a touch faster than the last time I went. Still slow but not the big drop backwards I was expecting. Obviously being a stone lighter helps. Not sure my legs will be thinking that tomorrow though.

It was my youngests birthday party today, I was determined not to eat any of their food but I ended up eating pizza and cake, my willpower took a hike!
Tomorrow I'm going out for a meal with the family for Mother's day and I just know my good intentions will take another hike as I look at the menu!
I will be glad when it's Monday and I can get back to normal instead of being surrounded by fattening temptations!
If 2000 isn't working even for a man he will have to lower his calories. What would you suggest ?
To be fair I probably consume 3000-4000 a day easily myself. However, with a bit of foresight I know I could cutback to between 1500-2000 calories a day.
2500 is what an average man consumes but given that I'm 6 stone overweight, I need to consume less than that until further notice!
