I think Danny knew something about his Dad's extra-marital affair, and so was extorting money out of this person hence the £500.
What about the father of the baby theories ? The husband, the journalist, DS Millers hubby, the daughters boyfriend, the postie, character yet unseen ?
I can't wait to find out more about Alec. I also hope we see Simon Rouse (Jack Meadows in The Bill) again!
According to imdb he's only in the first episode.
But then again, so is Pauline Quirke!
I know that's not always reliable but other actors in Broadchurch I looked up are all down as being in more than one episode, though for some reason David and Olivia are down as being in episodes 1,2,3,4,5 and 8. Not 6 and 7!
Can't really see Alec being back in it again, thought, not when the woman reporter has moved into the town away from where he'd be seen.

So it seems Simon didn't exactly have a big part! He only had two lines, didn't he?
imdb for some reason says that there are only 6 episodes in this series so wouldn't take the details as gospel. No actor appears in episode 6 and 7!!
That's what I meant - and Pauline Quirke is only down as having done one episode!
But Pauline was in the first and second episodes....1st watching what as going on at the beach.....2nd taking the dog for a walk and giving David:rolleyes:Tennant the keys to the chalet.
The very first thing they would have done is check the dad's alibi. Something like 75%+ murders are by family and close aquaintances. They'd rule them out first, especially as the dad's alibi was shakey from the start.
Olivia Coleman's character is hopelessly naive. Nobody could have reached that rank being that oblivious to the facts of police work (I love Olivia Colman though)
There's never been a murder in a town of 15000 people before? Really?
There's only one reporter there. Horrible fact but dead children sell papers. Especially in the summer when there is less news around. The place would be, if not swarming, filled with more than one reporter.
That being said I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to more
But she said she went away for three weeks...and she came back bearing (presumably) duty frees... ****, vodka etc for her colleagues?
Yes, that was my impression as well, and it would have explained why she did not know she hadn't got the job. If she was that friendly with her colleagues she was bringing them gifts then surely one of them would have rung her to let her know about the new detective, but if she was out of the country presumably that would have been more difficult for them.

Or maybe they just didn't want to spoil her holiday! Plus there is no reason she would actually talk to any of them, just because they're her colleagues. Not many people call work or have work calling them when on hols and not many would contact people they are close to.
[*]There's never been a murder in a town of 15000 people before? Really?
I think he just meant, since he had been in the job, which probably wasn't very long. Or was it Miller who said it? In which case, since she had been in the job (a bit longer).
I bet the Dad and the postie were sleeping together and Danny knew, hence the money and the argument Danny had with the postman - plus they both had similar alibis with these "mates".

Olivia Coleman was being interviewed by Graham Norton and she was saying that no-one in the cast knew the ending whilst filming and even the person who was the murderer didn't find out until they got the script just before filming the final episode, so although the direction itself may focus on specific clues, the actors will not have prior knowledge or be able to go much beyond the script as part of their portrayals.

She had come back from holiday. I don't recall it being maternity leave and if so, unless I was asleep I don't recall seeing a newborn baby around the house (and they'd certainly left it out of their trip to the cafe).
I do wish the producers would stop sticking silly, deliberate red-herrings in our faces though. I mean - the fairly lingering shot of Danny's skateboard in Pauline Quirke's cupboard as she was getting the keys wasn't necessary. A quick glimpse maybe but you saw it for about 4 - 5 seconds.
Not drinking coffee
"Can't" eat fish and chips (although does)
Doesn't sleep (or at least not in a chair)
Takes 2 flat white tablets when feeling giddy
Obsessed with not becoming emotionally involved and remaining objective
Has to remind boss that he was "exonerated"

Like the way the clues are building up.
Needs to understand that the officer in charge of a major investigation is supposed to be a supervisor, not someone who goes round speaking to witnesses etc.

Also there was a picture of a young woman in his wallet which the camera lingered on. I think we're meant to assume that this was pendant girl- the one who 'forgives him', according to Will Mellor.

Good points. Also David Tennant would have plenty of help. He would just need to fire up his laptop, log in to Digital Spy, and he would find a thread with hundreds of posts with comments, wild theories and conjecture on the case.
Do people actually find such poorly written, over emotional, terribly acted, and over produced codwallop entertaining?
I have it on in the background and don't miss anything as there is so much filler in it (about half the programme is bloody slow motions!).
It's a pathetic excuse of a programme.
How do you know you haven't missed anything if it's on in the background. Some of the filler may actually be key to the plot as it develops. I don't understand why if you find the programme pathetic you would have it on anyway.

After reading the Mayday thread I'd say it is needed for some viewers with huge bubbles saying here's a clue.

and as he refuses to say where he was, he would have to spend some time in a cell
She does keep harping on about that:o
Unfortunately I can't see why we would need to see Jack again:(
I feel obliged to say that I haven't a clue who did it:o
Im bloody loving this series and this thread

Have to say I'm veering towards that idea.

True, but where's the fun in that?
Apart from the fact that he's a scruff, I guess he's no different to every other senior detective on tv:p
