I suppose it would infringe the Ticket Collector's human rights to walk down the train with a bin liner so people could deposit their rubbish like air cabin crew do.
They do little else anyway it seems.

One person having to do someone else's job?
Oh NO! NO! NO! the unions would have a fit!
The collector wouldn't want to do extra work or expect extra money to do it and the cleaners would be out of a job.
Ah you've not seen that FM's previous have you?
'Nothing to see here, keep on moving' IMO.
Suprised that you're watching this, Prince. I would have thought you prefer to watch one of C4's countless voyeur programs. 16 Kids is on tonight:cool:
It looks quite easy to drive a train tbh, I would not mind having a go as well
Not quite a easy as one thinks, TPWS alarms, AWS Alarms, Driver;s Safety device needs to be acknowledged every 30 seconds or so, otherwise brakes will slam on, for each of the above actions you need to ack too, people jumping in front of your train, hearing the 'thud' as you hit them, route knowledge of various routes, 4 volumes of rules and regs, operating instructions for each type of unit, loco, knowing where all the speed restrictions are, knowing what engineering work is programmed...............................................:)
Could have made a reservation, I think they cost £1
The reason why he was unable to reserve a seat was because a train had been cancelled and everyone was having to take a later train.
I've enjoyed this series, it's been excellent PR for the railways. Everyone interviewed has been so cheerful, you'd be forgiven for thinking it were a PR film made by the Stasi.
But there's selective editing for you. But I guess it's more about if you think you're going to be on telly, you aren't going to slag off your employer too much.

Prob cheaper staying in Glasgow & getting the train to Edinburgh at that time of year.

(Sadly not too long to wait! )
They don't care - they take the money and then laugh that they can get away with charging so much for so little.

Unlikely that would have happened.
All the guard was saying is he couldn't guarantee a seat.
Nothing to stop someone else on the train offering him theirs if one wasn't available.
Even if he had to stand up at the start of the journey there would have been seats once people started getting off at stops before getting to London.
He didn't look particularly frail anyway. Just seemed he thought he deserved a seat and was going to use his age to "jump the queue".
So do I.
I think I might want to be a train driver as well....... (only somewhere scenic like Scotland though!)

Travel First Scotrail every day and was hoping to see behind the scenes of that - guess they never gave permission?
Hope they make a 2nd series. Very interesting.
