A statement on their website and now gradually being reported MCR have split up.
I love this band and they have made four amazing studio albums. The Three Cheers era was my favourite but loved when they broke big with The Black Parade.
The group was formed on September 11th 2001 after Gerard witnessed the terror attacks on his way to work and wanted to produce a positive band for the world. Unfortunately as emo and everything attached to it took off they were hugely misrepresented and their positivity on dark subject matters was misinterpreted.
Also very sudden as i'm sure they were talking about a new album at the end of the year, will have to see how this unfolds...

Everyone knew that Girls Aloud would split but you just don't think about it with bands like MCR.
There was always so much behind their music and I know that they have a big fanbase and I doubt they even knew about the split.
Also the moment they went to #1 unexpectedly with 'Welcome to the Black Parade' was a genuine shock but also for the charts too as it felt like the outsiders had taken over and was quite empowering and no one saw that coming.
They were also the best band i've seen live back in Nottingham in early 2007 on the Black Parade tour - they were the real deal.
Farewell MCR & Thank you
Mine too:(..
It wasn't shocking at the time. It's shocking looking back, because songs like that don't even go top 40 anymore. But it was getting played all over the radio at the time, on the same radio stations that were playing Girls Aloud, Britney Spears, 50 Cent, etc. It wasn't surprising it was big imo.
It's a shame they're splitting up but at least they leave behind them some good music and not some all about the money blandness like a few other 'bands'......
Well I certainly hope this is a joke.
I doubt they even know who Girls Aloud are so why you'd think they'd try and take the limelight off them only you know.
Hard to know sadly. Sometimes this seems more like a Popstar Worship section rather than the Music section.
What kind of STUPID post is this? Are you TWELVE or something? You 'only heard' Black Parade for 30 seconds and that gives you the right to say that they are 'dross' based on a 30 second song? Moron.
Gutted about this but saw it coming a mile off. Read an interview a while back with Gerard talking about the unreleased track 'The World Is Ugly' and he said that they would only ever release it to the public if the band split up. So when they released 'Conventional Weapons' with 'The World Is Ugly' earlier this year I knew it wouldn't be long before they announced a split.
I beleived they had been working on a new album though so kind of hope we see something from that at some point. 'Danger Days' wasn't a bad album but prefered their older stuff.
Unfortunately for the band even if they like it or not whenever anyone mentions the story of 'emo' in the mid to late noughties MCR and Fall Out Boy will always be the groups mainly mentioned in the same way with Grunge it's Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Nu Metal Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit and Britpop Oasis and Blur.
In my opinion, Danger Days is pop/rock/dance perfection.
One of my all time favourites.
If Girls Aloud splitting up could be compared to a single grain of sand, then Jupiter is the size of the f*** I do not give..
