Last of the great American singers? Bruce Springsteen fans might have something to say about that. Last of the old school easy listening singers might be a better way of putting it.
Actually I'm a huge Bruce fan as well and think that he's probably the last of the blue collar - speaks to your average working american man - type singer as well!
And Tony Bennett is much more than an old school easy listening singer! Like Bruce, he too started out as blue collar working guy!

I like Cliff well enough though can't say I'm a MASSIVE fan. It will be the end of an era when he goes though. Also Marty Wilde, in my opinion a very underrated singer. These two are the last of the great British rockers from the 50s era. Ah, memories!
And of course Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. That will certainly be the end of an era.
There'll be wall to wall coverage when these people die
It'll be interesting what its like when the Queen goes, as most of us on DS will never have witnessed the death of and coronation of a monarch.
I can imagine that all television will be a BORE for 2-3 days as wall to wall TV mourning mode will be activated.
I remember when King George the sixth died in February 1952, our headmaster came into our classroom and announced that the King had died, and we were all sent home. I also recall that mournful music was played on the wireless all day. By the time of the Coronation in June 1953 I was working, and the highlight of that year was getting our first TV set, it was a nine inch Echo, about half the size of my lap top. Needless to say, I am not one of those who goes on about "the good old days", they were bloody awful.;)

Bela Lugosi died alone and virtually penniless in a seedy looking flat in LA ..... how sad.
When Eli Wallach dies it will be extremely sad, but for me the end of an era came with Paul Newman dying.
Musically it will be Keith Richards and Bob Dylan.
Or any of the Rolling Stones
They mean "Crooner" And Bruce isnt one of those.

I agree, Rolf was part of my childhood (but not in that way)
Awww.
My lasting memories will always be his Olympic Opening Ceremonies.
The man is a true legend.
Upon either of which cue cheesy epitaphs including allusions to passing 'final frontier'.
Or they play excepts from albums the 2 of them made over the years!
