I dont know why people say Tanya hasnt developed outside Max, most of her cancer story, Raine, Cora etc have all been about her and not about her and Max's realtionship. I'm gonna miss her loads and hope she does return one day.
But the problem was as soon as those storylines were over it was back to Max and their mind numbing
marriage/Divorce/affairs, she just reverted to being Mrs Branning instead of building on her struggles and making her a strong independent woman. There was so much they could have done with her and didn't ..
I Tanya was great at the start because she was a seemingly normal(ish) soap character. She had a good back-story and even though she was "the other woman" in Max's life, I still felt sorry for her on the day she discovered the Stax affair. Soap sensationalism definitely got the better of Tanya, and I do think it's her time to go.
Seeing the awful direction Tanya's been taken in does make me wonder where exactly poor Ava will be in 5 years (should she stick around, of course). A pleasant, grounded woman who a lot of us can relate to... all we have to look forward to is which relationship she will become entangled in, and if we are lucky, a potential wodunnit scenario!
Well Billy has had an early sniff and she is Tanyas sister so it would also have to be Phil as he has had the others, wow a Mitchell/Branning love triangle, why has no one thought of that one before.:D
It is a shame as she is a good actress but sadly it is a sign of the times. A lot of good actresses have left recently with Barbara and Lacey going in 2010 and Samantha in 2011. I think Lorraine Newman has to sign some well known strong actors and actresses for the new family.
Can't say I'm too surprised at this news as Jo was probably as bored sh*tless as viewers are with the tedious endless cycle of breaking up/making up with Max:yawn:!
It's a shame because I do like Tanya when she's away from Max, same as I do like Kat away from Alfie:)! The only good thing about her leaving is that we'll be spared her getting back with Max for the 37th time:sleep:, and like others have said, they'll have to focus more on other characters besides the Brannings:)
A viewers reaction to an acting performance is very subjective, just as much as any individuals reaction to facial features - beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If a perfromance didn't move you to tears over something like the death of a child, or cancer then to you - it wasn't very good. Others will have found it very moving so they will deem it a good performance. It's really unfair tto state opinions on a performance as fact. Now, you can recognise that someone must me quite good due to general critical acclaim but still not particuarlt like them. I, for example find both Julie Walters and Meryl Streep quite tiresome to watch but BAFTA and OSCAR voters who are professionals don't so I must be missing something.
I really rated Jo in Doctor Who and the first couple of years of EE but not so much since her return from Maternity Leave - maybe I'm used to her, maybe I'm just so bored of seeing the same thing over and over again that it no longer effects me? Who knows. I do think that the character is past her use by date so hope the break is permenant or at least for several years and that the rest of the family aren't left in limbo pending ab 'indefinately scheduled' return.
Finally, you can dislike an actors scting style without actually disliking them as a person. Whether they are nice in real life is irrelevent when discussing the professional work.
So glad EastEnders have finally confirmed this. Now we will have an end to this 'she's going on a 6-month break' nonsense. Jo Joyner never ONCE said she was taking a 6-month break, the original statement last May stated she was leaving at the end of her current contract.
If I had my way, Tanya would have been killed off at least 4 years ago. I hope she never returns.
Thank you for the BIB.
I tried posting yesterday that Jo would be out of contract and apparently wasn't renewing, and people either chose to disbelieve this or simply shouted me down.
Being out of contract will mean she has no automatic right to demand a job on EE at any time in the future. She can ask, but it will be entirely up to the EP at the time to decide whether there is a place for Tanya in the show or not.
While the 'door is open' as presumably she's leaving in a black cab rather than a box, as the Brannings are largely a spent force due to over-exposure, don't hold your breath for a return.

Exactly. And this is what I have also been saying since the BBC's ambiguously-worded statement last May. If Jo is out of contract, she is no longer with the show - ie she has LEFT. It's not up to her when she returns, if ever, it's up to whoever is EP at the time. A lot of people clearly do not understand what a contract entails.

Yes - at times it has felt like bashing my head against a brick wall.
Let's just hope we dont have a repeat of the Amira exit - with Tanya in a black cab, looking wistfully out of the window towards Phil Mitchell while her hand rests across her belly ....
And before the inevitable shrieks that 'she didn't sleep with Phil' begin, we only have Phil's word for that, and personally I wouldn't trust a word that came out of his mouth. While he wouldn't take advantage if she had passed out from the booze, Tanya was certainly up for it when she initiated things in the bedroom.
One thing I notice in people posting who don't like Tanya. no one has mentioned Kirsty who will in a way be taking over from Tanya. As I believe that she is to announce she's pregnant. But according to the same soap magazine Tanya also finds herself pregnant.
As Tanya and Phil never so he says did the business together the night he stayed over in her bed when she was drunk and couldn't remember anything about the night before. So if she is pregnant I'm taking that Max is the father?
For me I have never found an overkill of The Brannings. In fact I have always said though I have watched Easties since it first went on air Feb 1985 that in these past few years I wouldn't have stuck with Easties if it weren't got The Brannings. They have kept me tuning in and Tanya was the character I liked the best.
Any Aprils Fools joke should have been clarified by now - it is only an April Fool if done in the morning and corrections are usually stated in the afternoon or next dayt's paper if that was where it was printed.
Kirstys pregnancy is pretty much definate ti the soap mag with the headline of Tanya pregnant was pure speculation and I'd be surprised if it happened. I'd say people aren't talking about Kirsty as she is a totally seperate character with a different dynamic with Max and all the other characters. I'm sure she and Max will have marital problems but they will take a different form to the Tanya/Max roundabout.
Anyone notice that Mormon Girl's account is inactive? Maybe the Tanya-grief was too much...
Double edged sword with Jo Joyner leaving. On the plus side, it breaks up the main part of the Branning dominance, they can't dominate every single storyline if the core family unit is broken up. On the downside, they now have lots of 'splinter groups' of Brannings that they will no doubt try and shoehorn in together. They should keep Carol involved with Bianca, get rid of My Alice and The Mumbler, and I assume they will cobble a family out of Max and Kirsty, Lauren and Abi (maybe Oscar too, depending how Tanya leaves.)

I never said it was an April fools! It has been confirmed by the BBC themselves. I was just laughing at your lateness in reporting such a story by making a thread about it when it is, by now, old news.

Jane is in Cardiff, which is also where I live
I hope Cora's staying on.

How do you know that's why Jo is leaving? it could just be she wants to spend time with her family.

I cannot link the article as I'm on the iPhone but its not an April fool and has Newman mentioning her departure.
Isn't it incredible that this news story was broke at 9am this morning!?
