I have had many cats in the past who spent their days preening themselves and discreetly doing their business in the garden under a hedge then burying it in the soil.
However we have one cat now and he is a not the typical hygenic cat. He does his business in the middle of the lawn and just walks away.
He takes his food out of the bowl trailing it all over the kitchen floor before he decides to eat it and he also likes to sleep in the laundry basket on the dirty laundry.
Before him I would have said all cats are generally clean animals.
Apart from mad menopausal DS women who have 25 cats and don't let them out , one can't tell if a household has a cat till you accidentally sit on one sleeping on a chair. [ we've all done it ].
I am interested as my cat has a good old look at baby in the crib every night when he is fast asleep
I'd safely ignore that poster. She claims to work in a cat sanctuary, but advocates the de-clawing of cats & would sometimes give dangerous advice to others in the Advice forum.
Don't let the cat alone with baby though, they like to sleep on humans of any variety!
I think it pretty unlikely a cat will suffocate a child by sleeping on it, and sucking out its break is in the realms of fairy-tales:rolleyes: Though I did like the subversion in the film "Cats Eyes" where the cat actually saved baby from an evil Imp
Its not a good idea to leave a cat with a young child unsupervised though, as the child won't realise when its annoying the cat and eventually the cat may lash out.
My cat won't go near the baby but she does always watch him sleep? I think she likes to know he is safely out of the way before she climbs on me for her nightly cuddle.
The moment baby stirs in his crib she is out of there
It's been impossible to find one authenticted story of a cat suffocating a baby by sleeping on it's face.
Stories invented by the legions of unhinged cat haters
A SIX-WEEK-OLD boy died in his cot after the family cat fell asleep on his face.
When Nicola Payne went to feed her son, Keiron, at her house in Kingsteignton, Devon, at 5am on Thursday, she found the cat curled up next to his lifeless body. A police spokesman said: "We are looking at the possibility that the cat suffocated the baby."
Janet Kipling, RSPCA South West regional spokesman, said: "This sort of tragedy is extremely rare. Cats do try to curl up with anything that is warm. A cat would cover up most of a sleeping baby. You can buy cat nets to go over a cot or a carrycot. We would also urge parents to keep the cat out of the room."
There is no evidence whatsoever for cats having the ability to suck breath out of infants - that lies well in the sphere of medival superstitions like the Succubus and Changlings. Snopes
They also suck the breath out of children (especially babies).
FFS Thats not 'sucking the breath out of children' thats a tragic accident.
Seriously Keio - why bother? One minute your a super spy cat detective (I'm picturing a cross between top cat and batman here), the next your telling us that they are evil?! At least get your ridiculous stories together and then take them off to another part of the forum world.
Rainbow girl - it was a myth a long time ago when cats were associated with witches - they were meant to be the witches familiar doing thier evil work by stealing the breath of innocents. The story came from the fact that cats like to sit on your chest nose to nose (especially when its cold). For that reason (and not one of breath stealing or evil baby killing) it is recommended you don't leave them unattended with a sleeping baby, as they may BY ACCIDENT smother them, its rare but it does happen, just as dogs may nip. I can assure you it is not some devilish plan by cats with thumbs to irradiate the human race one infant at a time.
for those that were saying about cat poo on the lawn, its most likely foxes - few cats leave poo out uncovered. Check and see if its in a circular pattern too (the position on the poos - not the poos themselves) as thats another key advert for foxes. Oh and if it smells REALLY bad (or REALLY good to your dog ) its fox poo........

Umm yeah I do. I'll put them back on. One sec.
I'm not sure
He does technical presentations for NCIX, an online Canadian computer retailer, and also has his own Channel, LinusTechTips:

I think he was just demoing how one would wash a cat...if the need or desire were to arise.
I trawl through YouTube looking at Tech stuff and music...but end up looking at video of cute cats

This..
My cat sits on my bed on a regular basis but I'm not worried, he's wormed on a regular basis etc.
Dogs smell far more than cats and are no cleaner really.
Shouldn't be.. eww.. people allow that?
My mum and dad do. It makes me go:eek:
It does not bother them at all. Funny thing is my mum on the whole is a bit of clean freak and neither of them ever seem to get colds or sick.
Maybe i should start letting mine!
What does this actually mean?

Is that a myth ?

babies...still crapping in their pants up to the age of 3 years.
Cats, spend a large part of the day grooming themselves or other cats/ dogs/ other animals they are close to.
People. varies from daily washing and hair brushing to "what is this shower you speak of?"
They sure do - generally in my garden

The later inquest showed Kieron died of Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), not from the cat lying on him.
Cat exonerated
