I think people are misunderstand this ending - it's not about a twist but the final (and on-going) impacts on the community.

I have loved this series and though i suspected Joe Miller was the killer I did not expect this final episode to be quite so heart rending. I have to to say that the acting perfomances from David Tenant, Olivia Coleman and Pauline Quirke have been absolutely outstanding.. this is Tv at it's best/
