The BBC signed a new deal yesterday to extend their TV and radio deals for the SPL and The Rangers games in the SFL. They can have up to 10 live commentaries - and I'm confident they'll exercise that right next season.
For the cups, if BBC commentators (TV and radio) are denied entry, they're in breach of the rules and can be chucked out.
It's amazing, though, that the source of this throwing toys out the pram was the reporting of a document prepared by The Rangers themselves, and leaked by a current director. And yet it lacked "logic, balance and fairness"...
Anyway, Mr Traynor should be careful. It's not the first time his words and actions have come back to haunt him...

Yesterday, Newstalk Sport Saturday was presented by Ger Gilroy and Kenny Cunningham with Adrian Barry reading the sports bulletins. The programme took IRN's Premier League reporters from the 3pm (and 3.30pm) games as detailed in Ian's earlier post, although to correct one detail it was Andrew Cheal reporting on Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton rather than John Southall.
I completely agree, amazing coverage from talksport today for the last day of the Championship. Well done all the reporters and Adrian Durham who has shown himself as a top quality broadcaster when not on the drivetime show
talkSPORT have been giving a good airing to an audio highlights montage of all of the key moments from the final day in the Championship season, which I've heard a few times now. I can't help but be struck by how well both Graham(e)'s, Courtney and Lloyd, covered the two matches that were key to the automatic promotion race. Ian Danter also did a great job at Palace v Peterborough, likewise Geoff Peters at the East Midlands derby.
Graham Courtney in particular was superb at Hull v Cardiff - listening to him describing the penalties at either end during that dramatic finish makes me think what a good commentator he must have been in his days covering Newcastle United for Metro Radio back in the 1990s. I'd like him to be given the chance to commentate on talkSPORT one of these days, he's been with the station for about ten years now but I don't think he's ever had the chance to do a full commentary for them.
I didn't hear 5Lives but many people have commented that it was also excellent.
On Sunday 5Live have a 3pm game and the 2nd half of Man Utd vs Swansea. I imagine the 3pm game is taken from the Saturday 3pm package as its basically a Saturday round.
I'd imagine they'll describe the lifting of the PL trophy at Old Trafford. Do we think TS might go across for this too?

In answer to Col's question in #2395, I fully expect talkSPORT to carry the Premier League title presentation live either during a slightly-extended Call Collymore or The Press Pass on Sunday. I imagine their Manchester-based football correspondent (and Manchester United fan) Dom McGuinness will be their reporter at Manchester United v Swansea City and thus the man to describe it.
Despite not having the commentary rights to any of the most recent title-clinching/presentation games, talkSPORT have broadcast commentary (or sorts) on the trophy being lifted in recent past seasons: Sam Matterface did at Manchester City on the final day last year, Dom McGuinness did the last time Manchester United won it in 2011 and Ian Abrahams did when Chelsea clinched it in 2010.
It'll be interesting to see if Absolute Radio are able to provide commentary on the presentation and indeed if they even have someone at Manchester United v Swansea City. I'm expecting them to be providing commentary on a Sunday 3pm kick-off, as they're planning to flip their Saturday and Sunday afternoon schedules at the weekend. Ian Wright's phone-in will be on-air between 5-7pm so they will be broadcasting football coverage at the time the trophy is raised. I think they have broadcast commentary on the presentation in the past, but when it has been decided on the final day and they have had a secondary team at the first pick match. Absolute don't have the reporting access that talkSPORT and Radio 5 Live do, so this might not be possible in this instance.
