I am not a fanboy as i have had iphone 3g, htc desire hd and now a samsung galaxy note 1....since jelly bean and ice cream the phone is painfully laggy, even doing simple tasks as opening up contacts and uploading a photo on facebook never works and when it does only after a million trys.
Booting up the camera is painful too where as ios does all these things buttery smooth.
I cannot wait to get rid of this phone and get an iphone again!!
Why is android so laggy and slow?

On my Nexus 4 and my previous S3 everything opened smoothly and promptly with no lag. Facebook on the other hand, i had this issue on my iphone as well. Its the facebook app and nothing to do with the phone. With the last update of facebook it seems to be better but not great
Facebook, on the other hand, is as laggy and slow on both!
Maybe it has something to do with TouchWiz.
To be honest I think the note worked better on ics. I've found that if I free up even more storage space there seems to be less lag with jelly bean, the main problem I'm having at the moment is my phone switching itself off. It used to do it from time to time on ics but now it's violently switching itself off several times a day, I wish it was just rebooting like my previous galaxy note did as that is less problematic. I've had enough of moaning about the phone and getting annoyed about it now, I can't be bothered anymore with it. I'll see how I feel when it's time to upgrade my phone next year and that will determine what phone I will get next, whether I will go back to iOS or give android another shot. I'd have to wait and see what the iPhone 5S brings and weight it up against how fed up I am with my phone.
Indeed. Stock Android 4.1+ has Project Butter which makes it smooth like err...butter...:p
People buying cheap low-end devices shouldn't complain about performance, it's like someone buying a Skoda Fabia then complaining that they got outrun by a Ferrari in a traffic light race...
Samsung and HTC add their own software on top, and it does have an effect on performance. I've not seen a stock Android device, especially a Nexus, with those kinds of problems.
What are you classing low end?
I would imagine the majority of android users have low end devices and therefore have a right to moan if the product they purchased is seen as under performing.
You don't buy a phone and put android on it, you buy an android phone.
I wasn't referring to devices like the Note in with that statement. Your device is clearly plagued by issues related to Touchwiz. Google can't be held responsible for Samsung distributed builds.
Compared to the S4 sim free price the original Note is bargain basement material
If google want to be exonerated maybe the android branding should be scraped for everything other than nexus devices.
Maybe "touchwiz - android inside" should be the branding.
I've never been a fan of droid on tablets, phones it's fine but I think it's a bit leggy and slow on tablets.
Just an observation.
Yes, I agree. Cheap phones struggle because they lack power. I gave up on my Huawei Ascend G300 because it was virtually unusable. I then gave it to my wife because she doesn't need as much functionality but she couldn't get on with it either. I've ordered her a Nexus 4 because it's just so much smoother and faster.
My Nexus 10 tablet is far from laggy.
So I'm not alone then. Since the jelly bean update, my Note 1 has practically slowed to a crawl. So much for Project Butter goodness. Swiping between the home screens is jittery, opening the gallery takes an age, contacts and other applications all take much longer. I did a full factory reset prior to updating, AND after updating and it's made no difference at all. Even worse, I swapped over to a spare battery last night (often do) and for some inexplicable reason, my 'camera' folder in my gallery has TOTALLY disappeared, with 300 or so pictures now gone walkies. Pics were saved to my external SD card and, even having looked via connecting to my PC, there's no sign of. Bugger! Only had about two thirds backed up. This never, ever happened on ICS.
Looks like I'll have to get the Note 3,with its reported 3gb RAM, later in the year then. Shame. Can only hope Samsung release a firmware upgrade to sort these problems out in the meantime.
This. It's the extra skinning on top of android and the junk apps that can't be removed, which slow down Android. Even power house phone like the s4 has issues with lag due to the skin and bundled apps.
My nexus 4 which is pure android is fine. So too is my HTC one though it is skinned with HTC ui it's still buttery smooth.
I know everything is so laggy now. Some of my apps crash on opening. I had been playing the croods game for close to 2 months and now the damn thing won't even open it just crashes
Yesterday it took me about 5 minutes just to make a call, at first the call dialler was lagging and then crashed and then when it did dial it hung a few times before connecting.
It does seem this is definitely an area Apple are superior in. My Desire HD was full of lag and bugs from about 12 months in. By the time we parted last month it was becoming practically unusable. My mate's reported the same thing about the Sensation.
Despite all the claims I'm not getting an ounce of lag on the S4 but I daresay that will change over time.
Remembering your have upgraded the Note from ICS (I think) to JB, there is a chance that somethings got confused.
The only 'lag' ive ever had on a 'droid is opening the phone app, can sometimes take a second but once its in memory, its pretty instant... but then again, that seems to of happend on iOS devices too
