Ella Henderson
Ella that was... different. Don’t worry, it was a good different, I just wasn’t expecting it. Great work but on adapting the song to suit your vocals. Good work!
Ella, what can I say? I really liked it!! It was really good for your vocals and you put everything into it. I also liked how it built up from slow and then it went into those powerful notes that we all love you for. Thank you for being here, and I really hope I see you here again next week!!
George's Comment
Ella: I'm in two minds over this because I don't feel as though it was you singing it, but I did like the version.
Johnny what a little star. I loved that performance. It was fun, I loved the dancing and the energy. Usually `joke` acts don`t get very far in these games, but I really hope you do as I can see amazing performances coming from you. I can`t wait to see you next week!!
George's Comment
Johnny: I don't care what the general opinion about you is, but you're definitely not a joke act and I think this song really proved that so well done
Johnny Robinson
And that's just what this competition ordered; some fun! We had a lot of different songs lined up for you this week, however in the end decided on this as not only does it show off your vocal range, but also your performance skills as well. I know you wont be to everyone's tastes, but for me the competition will be duller if you're not in it. Don't listen to Jack - it ws fantastic. I hope people get behind you tonight and vote, vote, vote.
Johnny Robinson
Oh no. No, no, no. I’m banging my head off the desk, can we just stop. Johnny, you’re a lovely guy but it just wasn’t particularly good...at all. Sorry but there’s a fun entertainment factor and then there’s...that. Sorry, but I didn’t like it.
Nathan:
I wanna be drunk when I wake up
On the right side of the wrong bed
And never an excuse I made up
Tell you the truth I hate
All:
What didn't kill me
It never made me stronger at all.
Glenn:
Love will scar your make-up lip sticks to me
So now I maybe lean back there
I'm sat here wishing I was sober
I know I'll never hold you like I used to.
Scott:
But a house gets cold when you cut the heating
Without you to hold I'll be freezing
Marc:
Can't rely on my heart to beat in
'Cause you take parts of it every evening
Take words out of my mouth just from breathing
Replace with phrases like when you're leaving me.
Should I, should I?
All:
Maybe I'll get drunk again
I'll be drunk again
I'll be drunk again
To feel a little love
Scott:
I wanna hold your heart in both hands
Not watch it fizzle at the bottom of a Coke can
And I got no plans for the weekend
So should we speak then
Keep it between friends
Though I know you'll never love me like you used to.
Glenn:
There may be other people like us
Who see the flicker of the clipper when they light up
Flames just create us but burns don't heal like before
And you don't hold me anymore.
Nathan:
On cold days cold plays out like the band's name
I know I can't heal things with a hand shake
You know I can't change as I began saying
You cut me wide open like landscape
Open bottles of beer but never champagne
To applaud you with the sound that my hands make.
All:
Should I, should I?
Maybe I'll get drunk again
I'll be drunk again
I'll be drunk again
To feel a little love.
Quite liked it boys. It wasn`t the best but it certainly wasn`t the worst. There were some nice harmonies, but I would have liked a bit more. The vocals were nice, and I am glad you were picked, as you are not as well known as some of the other acts, so job well done!!!
George's Comment
The Reason: I loved your voices, I loved the song. It was really stripped back and intimate which was really good so well done
The Reason
I thought that was a solid first performance from your guys, it may have been nice to have something a little more immediate and wow going into the first show, however there is time for that over the course of the competition. I think as a group you have fantastic harmonies and your voices compliment each other well. I'm guessing you'll do well in the voting and will be around for a while. Well done on tonight's performance
The Reason
Guys, for me that’s one of the best performances of the night. Your harmonies together were fab, as were your solo sections which made it a really balanced and enjoyable performance. So well done, hats off to you boys!
Adam Burridge
An interesting cover version of Carly Rae Jepsen's song; it was a good reworking of the song and one that you managed to twist to fit into what you do best. I think that was one of the best performances of the night so far and It's going to be interesting to see what Roxy has in store for you for the next few shows. Based on the song choice I think you'll probably be in the show for a while; you've got as good style and thought that was a great first performance. Well Done; excellent first performance
Adam that was a nice performance, but I hope yoiur mentor doesn`t turn you into one of those acts that just sings slow versions of a song all the time. I think that it was nice for a first performance but if you want to stay please take a few risks in the upcoming weeks!!
George's Comment
Adam: I don't like the song, the cover was no different. It wasn't for me and I believe there is no point trying to take away the cheese from a song as cheesy as this
Jacka's comment
Adam Burridge
I’m fighting through the fact I hate this song to listen to your vocals. And they were really good! Well done, I think a different song choice would be a good idea though, because this really did not do you justice.
Awwwwwwww Melanie I loved it. I couldn`t take my eyes off you and you actually made me quite emotional. It`s only the first show and I have already gave a standing ovation. I am really impressed with you, and I just cannot wait to see what you bring in the coming weeks if this is what you do on the first show.
George's Comment
Melanie: I tell you what is perfect. This performance. It was amazing. it was emotional and beautiful. And Pink ROCKS
Jacka's Comment
Melanie McCabe
Well done Melanie, that was really good! I think you have a really nice tone and maybe it would be more suited to less upbeat songs but it was still good. Great job!
Melanie McCabe
Excellent performance from you and look already a standing ovation. You may not be well known, but your voice is amazing, the power is fantastic and I hope that you're going to be around for a very long time. Great vocals from you tonight and thanks to the other judges for the good comments!
That was amazing - definitely one of the best performances this evening. You made the song you're on - well done honey. I would have liked for you to give it a bit more on the choruses and the echoes made the song seem a bit karaoke but nevertheless I stick to what I said - amazing performance.
Sorry I'm so late guys - work again (been a busy week). Will post comments for everyone else at the end of the show.
Mary Byrne
Mary there is no denying you've got a great voice and I know everyone from Tesco's is cheering you on, however for me it was incredibly dated and it was basically a Saturday night karaoke performance. I think it's going to be very difficult for you to get through this competition as you are quite a niche singer and of a certain era. I think this performance/ song choice kind of showed your limitations as an act whilst you've got a good voice and a good vocal range I just think you're going to struggle both in terms of songs and with regards to the vote.
Again like Alexandra a really obvious and predictable song. I don`t know what you were thinking. A whitney song who is one of the most powerful and famous ballad singers(And this song is her most famous) picked for a slow ballad singer. I can`t see you being safe tonight, and that is a shame!!!
George's Comment
Mary: Predictable, boring and dated. I wasn't a fan. Do something a bit more modern next week please
Jacka's Comment
Mary Byrne
Mary, that showed off your power and your tone nicely. It wasn’t the best I could’ve found but I think it served its purpose pretty well, and you performed really great so well done!
Not great comments for Mary and the word "predictable" gets drawn out, is she already in trouble?
Next is the 2008 class again and these four boys are looking for a way to go out in style since they'll be splitting up soon, it's JLS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qff5_22Br8A
JLS
I'm going to be honest if JLS sung that on the show then I would probably say it was a good and it worked well. However in the context of these games I really dislike performances that other acts have done being reused as it seems (for want of a better word) slightly lazy in a way. So I don't really feel I can critique it; it's what Union J did on the show as opposed to JLS doing on this show. If you stay in, I kinda want something more original and something which hasn't already been done before.
Boys that was again quite predictable as it was someone`s x-factor performance, but it was pretty nice. Vocals clean and nice, with really excellent harmonies and I really want to see more from you so I hope you stay in the competition!!!
George's Comment
JLS: We all love Kelly Rowland and I loved this cover. Guys you are cool, talented and just great guys all round

Boys! Great song choice and great performance. I think because of your success outwith the competition you’re really going to do well, but I won’t speak too soon, just in case. Good job!

Alright time for 2010 class now and they're getting drunk (Not on stage, please, we have a policy!), it's The Reason!
