Clyde 1 presenter Robin Galloway is to host breakfast on Bauer Media’s network of AM stations across Scotland from July 1st, ending local shows according to Radio Today.

Looking at the story, it also looks like all local shows are going, but some maybe networked at the weekend instead.

Replacing names such as Bob Malcolm on Forth 2 and Riddy on Clyde 2. Bringing to an end of all local broadcasting on these individual stations. Some of the breakfast presenters will move into the network programming. Local news, weather and travel updates will continue.
Sad, if not maybe inevitable. Also changes to the programming...

I wonder if this means a radical AM shake up of the network schedules then? Galloway moving away from Clyde 1 drive, who will take over? Will he continue with his FM Galloway Sunday show across the most of Scotland?
He's replied to a twitter question that Galloway Sunday is staying. http://twitter.com/djrobingalloway/status/341567590990221312
As for Clyde 1 drive I'm guessing that Suzie McGuire will take over, she's due back from maternity leave soon.
It's nothing to do with Holyrood, as broadcasting isn't devolved. They can make their opinions known to the DCMS but that's all.
Secondly, these rules have been in place since 2010. The only real surprise is that Bauer have taken so long to implement what they have been permitted to do for three years. Why hire several breakfast presenters when you can have just the one?
Indeed. It's still a surprise that the Magic stations in England dont have just the one breakfast show yet, instead of the regionalised ones they brought in a couple of months ago.
What also surprises me with the Scottish stations is why they don't just rename them all Magic. Must be a bit of a pain for the presenters when you can't even name check the station.
Yes. you can't really blame Bauer. IMHO what Scotland needs, more than anything, is proper BBC local radio.
Personally I think it's much better for stations to network to regional breakfasts rather than just one breakfast show across a wide area, as it gives it a more local feeling.
The Scottish AM stations are still doing quite well and so I don't think a rebrand is needed. The presenters can name check the stations, this is done across all Bauer Place stations during networking. The networked presenter has all the stations names in their voice and just hits a button to send it out and then continues to talk about whatever they were.
What next?
Sadly I suspect it won't be long before the local shows on FM go the same way.
What's next - BBC1's Question Time with Davey Wavey?.
This is Scotland remember and in radio terms we've always been a bit behind the times. We had presenters called things like Waggy and Big Al long after they'd seen sense in other places and shock horror started calling people by their name. Of course Capital have now gone backwards again.
I don't think Ally Bally is the right person to host that show as there are far better people in Scotland (and elsewhere) who could do that job. Unless you're really old, have lived in Perth or Dundee or were actually one of the 10 people who watched We the Jury on TV Ally Bally is not a known name (or that good a presenter in my opinion).
I actually think most people have seen this coming for a while and it's clear in this financial year Bauer are really on a mission with their streamlining of the UK business. They've been waiting to see how it's affected other groups before doing it themselves and it's pretty clear it's not harmed anyone else in the slightest.

I remember going to Edinburgh a few years ago and listening to FORTH 2 on a Sunday - and it was all local- some woman on in the afternoon- but it was good tunes and banter....
Probably not too long till the FM stations start on the networking I think? But I'm sure Scotland see their different identities, as much more important than us in England... surely the Aberdeen people don't want radio that would come from Edinburgh or Glasgow? Which might happen yet,...........
Ally Bally's real name is Ally Ballingall.
The FM stations network overnights, Saturday mid-mornings and early afternoons, and Sunday mornings. However not all of the FM stations take Galloway Sunday - Radio Borders has Golden Brown instead between 9am-12noon. RB is actually luckier than the others as it's also able to opt out of the Saturday networking in order to cover local sporting events such as the Melrose Sevens.
His name is Alistair Balingall which is a bit of a mouthful.
He is very well know in the "Tay Territory" area, but until he started doing the networked mid morning show on the AM's a couple of years ago, I'd guess no-one outside of Perth or Dundee had heard of him.
Ally did weekend shows on Clyde 2 for a few years back in the 90s\2000s
Exactly. It looks as though there is a shift in strategy at Bauer who are now looking to streamline their operation as Global have done. As you say, Joe Public don't seem to notice or mind.
Depending on how the TFM- Metro thing goes, FM will be next. Merging/networking, maybe within another year or two.
I hope they don't network the same shows on both AM and FM.
And please no networks from London, Manchester or Birmingham e.g.
It would be a huge insult for the Borders listeners if they hear Hugh Keevins and Derek Johnstone from Ibrox on a Saturday afternoon instead of Stuart McCulloch from Melrose or Davie Watkins from Innerleithen.
There are not many better shows around on your radio than Golden Brown.
I recall the time when Radio Borders networked with Forth/Max AM from 7pm, not FM like they do now. The 4 tops "Reach out, I'll be there" played in glorious mono on the Tom Bell show and Late Date Thursday will never be fogotten. I listened to the same shows as you at night on Central FM.
There must surely be a Dick Barrie fan club originating from the time his show was being aired on Radio Borders. They must all be tuning into Forth 2 on their mobile or over the internet on a Sunday evening rather than to the networked show on FM.
I thought he had a jingle many years ago - sort of folky with a guitar - in which the singer said Alistair.
Might be wrong though, it was a long time ago.
And as regards to networking, I think it will be retained in Scotland albeit, it may all be all from Glasgow and/or Edinburgh. And if Radio Borders gets more networking they will be able to opt out for local sporting events on a Saturday, and specialist shows at the weekend.
They don't just play the latest hits on these stations.
