Jack and Imagine Dragons are up next with this beautiful anthem
Imagine Dragons
It’s Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sENM2wA_FTg
Note from Jack:This is an anthem to all the weirdos and freaks out there that being different is not a bad thing and its actually epic to be weird and shizz
Gav and The Strokes are next, with one of their most famous tunes!
The Strokes
Last Nite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOypSnKFHrE
Note from Gav:I think this is anthemic because it's so euphoric, it's kind of a hedonistic awesome party anthem
The penultimate performance of the night comes from Aliyah and Bastille, who are another act using one of their most famous songs!
Bastille
Pompeii http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F90Cw4l-8NY
Note from Aliyah:Pompeii is Bastille's biggest hit to date and is the song which raised their profile. It is still in the charts today and is perhaps the one song people identify Bastille with and therefore this would make the song Bastille's "anthem".
So that finishes off tonights show! Here's a recap of all the performances:
Inspirations:
P!nk
Are We All We Are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWqmRGnqYpw
Note from Roxie:This song is from her latest album. People have this misconception that God or someone else will still sort out our problems for us. In this, she’s saying we’re better than that, our problems are our own and it’s our job to make sure we do it ourselves! But, at the same time, it’s about teamwork as well, about how sometimes we think we can deal with problems alone but actually it’s always better if we have a helping hand. Anyone can relate to this song because we’ve all faced a crisis at some point in our lives and have needed the strength and support of other people. This song basically inspires us to sort out our own problems but to take help when needed.
Imagine Dragons
Amsterdam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKtPXO5iEnA
Note from Jack:The song is about Dan (the lead singer) apologising to his family for everything wrong he's done in the past.
Sara Bareilles
Song For A Soldier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvYGafAmrwY
Note from David:Quite simply, the song was inspired by US forces fighting for their country around the world in places such as Afghanistan
FrankMusik
You Are Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udMIrTtaa4U#t=0m19s
Note from Alex:This song is one of the first FrankMusik wrote for his new album. It was influenced by his decision to leave his record label behind in the US, come back to the UK, and start making his own music the way he wanted to. This song represents a big change in his career, his sound, and his life
The Strokes
12:51 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPAVDHo1Elc
Note from Gav:The Strokes have 5 members, all with different music tastes and this song in particular is an amalgamation of a lot of them. The most obvious, direct influence is of Sonic Youth - Julian pretty much admitted a lot of the song is immediately influenced by the awesome song Bull In The Heather (which you should check out, because it's amaze if you don't know it). There are a lot of other influences in there, I think the whole clash of guitars meets synths kind of makes this song super interesting - there's a definite Cyndi Lauper neon 80s thing involved there, the band have also talked a lot about the influences of bands like Talking Heads,The Velvet Underground and Blondie - I think this record has a particularly 80s-influenced vibe that showcases them all whilst still definitively sounding like a Strokes record.
Bastille
Laura Palmer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQnSc0bczg0
Note from Aliyah: The track is immersed in inspiration from the show Twin Peaks where Laura's character is murdered at homecoming. This song is basically a reflection of Bastille frontman Dan Smith's fascination of the character and attempt to 'give life' to the character by telling her story in the song.
P!nk
Family Portrait http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x0mcG2_p8Q
Note from Roxie:This song is an anthem for everyone with any sort of family/parent problems as the lyrics as it expresses exactly what they feel – scared, betrayed, heartbroken. It’s a song which can touch anyone’s heart
Imagine Dragons
It’s Time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sENM2wA_FTg
Note from Jack: This is an anthem to all the weirdos and freaks out there that being different is not a bad thing and its actually epic to be weird and shizz
