TG take some beating. Not easy to listen to but infinitely rewarding in places.
TG are easily the band by whom I own the most stuff- I've got the 24-CD, 10-CD and 7-DVD boxsets... and that's not to mention the actual albums (yeah, went a bit crazy about them a while back...)!
Swans - early stuff is very hardcore, then they went a bit goth / folky but recent album The Seer is a jaw-dropping 2 hour experimental noise fest. Utterly wonderful.
LOVE Swans. Have you seen any of their recent gigs? Last year at London Koko was probably the most intense gig I have ever been to. Stunning.
Einsturzende Neubaten - German experimentalists and possibly the first proper "industrial" band (depending on whether you see TG as industrial or not).
Love Neubauten too- I have their symbol as a tattoo!
Really looking forward to the new NIN album on Monday.
OP, Skinny Puppy are also well worth a listen.
Whitehouse I like more as an idea than an actual band, if that makes any sense. It was pretty impressive when they were doing it, because they were doing something genuinely impressive and new, but when you get people like Sutcliffe Jugend who are essentially doing exactly the same as Whitehouse were doing twenty-five years ago, you have to kind of wonder what the point is, given that it's not an experiment any more.
Merzbow, though, he's great. Skullflower are another one worth checking out.
