My BF is Canadian and whenever we go over there to visit family, we tend to do a Tuesday night at the cinema as they do cheap Tuesdays at his local one. For the ticket, large Popcorn and a large drink it's about $15, so about £9-10... wish we got deals like that over here
I really don't no who buys cinema food anymore, you can get a bag of just as good popcorn in Sainsbury's. I enjoy in the cinema and enjoy most opportunities I get to go but rarely buy food.
An iced 'Fanta' drink is nearly £4 in my local vue
Those stupid kids boxes are over £5.
Pop corn ranges in two flavours at three sizes. Small is like £3.50, medium is like £4.50 and large is like £6
I always prepare. There is an ASDA I pass on the way to the cinema I stop in and get a bottle of drink and a bag of popcorn from there. £3 at the most
Good for you
I wish more people would do that actually if they just cannot see a film without a four course meal. Obviously I'd hate to see cinemas go out of business, but i'm just so vehemently anti-cinema food it just bugs me ..
I still fail to see the point of having a 'meal' in the cinema. If I go to see a film, I go to see a film. I can have my dinner at home in front of the TV ..

I agree with this. I never bother to buy food and drink at a cinema. Its two hours for god sake. Why on earth can people not go without food for two hours? I suppose I can understand needing a drink. When I went on Friday I took a bottle of water in which I got from Tesco for 50p. The cinema charge £2 for the same thing! But mostly I dont bother. When I hear the annoying munching noises it drives me to distraction.

You have this neat thing called self-control. Don't lose it.

I'll try not to
I'll make one exception though with cinema food. If someone hasn't been for a few years and wants to do the whole 'experience' of seeing a film with popcorn and a coke because it's 'tradition' then fair enough - it's likely they've saved the money anyway and it's a big deal for them that day.
Well I for one love the concessionary stand. I get a large hotdog, popcorn and a drink every time and my better half has some sweets and a cup of tea......costs the best part of £15 but it forms part of that cinema experience to me and I can't go without it.

For me a Cinema trip is a treat for myself. I go like once or twice a year so I like to make it a mini event. And my mini event includes popcorn and a drink (bought elsewhere)

See that I don't have a problem with. For you, as you say, it's an event so you make a day of it and go for the whole "traditional" experience. However ...

.. can you really not wait until you get home to get something to eat ?. But then if you want to pay extortionate prices for cinema food then at least you forfeit the right to complain about it
I can't go to the cinema without eating. I tried it once and I couldn't enjoy the film. Plus everyone around was eating as well, so that just made it worse for me.
The food on offer is ridiculously expensive, but I only go to the cinema a few times a month, I just get it because I enjoy it and completes the experience. It may be expensive, but sometimes indulgence is a good thing.
It depends what time of day it is and what Ive eaten. Sometimes I have a right little picnic (sandwiches, crisps, chocolate) other times I just take in sweets and chocolate

Agreed. The last time I bought anything at the cinema was the Avengers. I was late and hadn't eaten, so I got a hot dog (never had one before), some popcorn, and a drink. It came to something like £15 which I just couldn't believe...
Our local cinema chain have £3 Tuesdays where all day any seat for any film is only £3. It's always packed on Tuesday nights and not so much on others...
The prices though are about the same for most places. A medium drink is around £2.50 and a medium popcorn is around £3.00. Bags of sweets are around £2.50.
I went with a mate to see Man Of Steel last weekend and our tickets, 3D glasses, two drinks, one medium popcorn and one bag of sweets cost a total of £20, we shared everything and just paid £10 each.
You can't take your own stuff in as they will see it if it's in a carrier bag, but women usually get in without their bags being checked, depending on who's working and if you are wearing loose clothing and can hide some bags of stuff in pockets etc. and they usually don't notice. Truth be told, I'd rather take my own stuff in than pay high prices for inferior tasting stuff. The popcorn is usually stuff from a massive bag that is not freshly popped and is not warm and tastes like cardboard.
The cinema I go to doesn't allow food or drink in the theatre. It's brilliant.
We go early; have some proper grub and a pint in the concourse area; watch a film (generally) in silence; come out for a cup of coffee; go back in for another film; go home. Great way to spend a Sunday.
Occasionally, during some of the bigger Hollywood-type films you will get some people smuggling in sweets but the room is so small that they tend to get an embarrassing bollocking off the usher straight away. Usually though we get to enjoy the film without any rustling papers, slurping of drinks, mashing of ice, munching of popcorn etc.

went to see an early morning showing of Despicable Me 2 this morning at 9:30am. And people were still buying food at that time of the morning. Why ?
Maybe i'd understand if they had decided to get up and skip breakfast to eat at the cinema, but i'd bet a pound to a penny that not one of them did.

Never even asked about a Hot Dog
I never get this, why can't a girl offer to buy one thing.
Good for you

People eating in cinemas pisses me off anyway. Bags rustling, people chomping....
Most cinema visits though the only thing I will buy is the drink, I bring anything else from the Sainsburys nearby.
I've never been asked or checked to see if I had any at the cinema I go to.
