I have downloaded the classic shell clicked to disable charm corners and metro screen and its still there!
I uninstalled and reinstalled the classic shell and its still bloody there. I wouldn't mind if it worked properly but it pops up when i'm not even near a sodding corner! It gets stuck as well clicking to get it off sometimes brings it back up.Then the "metro" screen starts popping up randomly.
It driving me spare I don't know what to do now.

You could try one of the other utilities. StartIsBack gets generally good reviews and comments. There's a list here:

It is the hot corners that gets on my nerves to be honest, reminds me of a few years back when we had lower resolution monitors with windows 95 and the taskbar was hidden.
That particular feature isn't fixed by Start8 or the other software. If you go into the setup for the trackpad it might be possible to turn it off. That might come under 'mouse' in Control Panel.
I think you need this: http://www.thepoke.co.uk/2013/03/12/handy-windows-8-repair-tool/
Fixes every Windows 8 problem ever and also works with Vista and other troublesome OSes and programs
Go ahead. Get toffee flavour if you can
The metro UI I could cope with if I had to, but the hot corners are certainly a pain, whose ever idea it was to do that on the desktop should not be allowed to design anything ever again
It is not about using them, it is just that they get the way.
I agree with you 100%.
Just disable edge swiping in your mouse / touchpad properties
And disable active corners in the classic shell settings
I haven't seen the charms since
That's ok. I must remember that in case I have to set up a Windows 8 computer for anyone. It's guaranteed to cause a few headaches
Job done, cheers coachtrip
I know! you have to go into "Settings" just to switch it off?!
what the hell!
Im the same as you... Ive set my new computer up to resemble windows 7 as much as possible.
Im not interested in charms, metro, or apps!
I don't want clutter on my desktop / taskbar & desktop.
Best, would be a button you could click on at any time.. Which would give you access to all your programs, folders, and essential functions such as shut down, control panel, my computer... Etc.
An ideal name for this would be "start"
Alt - F4......If you don't want clutter...You can alter the function of the power button on your PC to power off....8.1 also solves the problem..
The real problem is not the power buttons, but, your need to complain, in anyway, about the lack of an old style start button.
Why? You have 3rd party solutions or swing back to W7. MS are obviously not listening regarding the old start button, so the complaining is pointless.
I do have the functionality I want, ( and a lot of people seem to want) using third party software....
...but this shouldn't really be necessary, Microsoft should really listen to customers a bit more.
The placement shut down menu is just one example of how the new layout is less user friendly for customers
