Well I agree with blue blade.
But only when the false accuser is successful.ie not found out.
Their victim will spend years in prison, probably lose their career, maybe family, be on the sex offenders list and be labelled for the rest of their lives.
I don't think he meant the false accusers were "showered in sympathy", just that victims of rape have support groups and are treated as victims, whereas victims of a false accusations can be treated as perpetrators for the rest of their lives.
They are victims....what else would you call them?
While it might be unlikely,it should be a factor in sentencing false accusers.
They still tried to cause their victim to be imprisoned and all the other negative aspects.
So to only get 16 months is an outrage.
Other false accusers get no time at all.
Oh, sentencing's a different kettle of fish altogether, and a really complicated one. Rape sentences tend to be horribly low too, and you can't really make sentences for false accusations worse than sentences for committing the actual crime, I don't think! Plus we have to install more faith in the justice system when it comes to rape anyway, otherwise cracking down harder on people making false accusations would just make people who have actually been raped even more likely not to report it. But in theory I agree that 16 months is low for a malicious (as opposed to mistaken) accusation of rape.
Up to you. I profoundly disagree with you.
For me, a person's life being laid waste because of a false accusation is every bit as bad as actual rape. Every bit as bad.
For that reason, the prison sentence for the false accuser should be exactly equal to that which the person falsely accused would have got if convicted.
A raped person does not have a moralistic monopoly on suffering in life.
That is my opinion and I don't give two hoots how unpopular it may be.
ETA: Oh, and for the record, I think your downgrading of a falsely accused person, whose life is smashed to pieces, being inferior in suffering terms to a person who is raped, to be disgusting.
Call me daft, but if I'd the choice I'd still rather be falsely accused and cleared of it than anally raped and battered.

If you are cleared of the accusation I would agree. But how would you feel if you were convicted & sent to prison?
You & the accuser could be the only 2 people who knew you were innocent whilst everybody else, including those who love you, believe you are this vile character? You would be ostracized.
That would ruin your life. Saying as much does not downplay the suffering of genuine rape victims.
As I read it, the poster was stating that for victims of rape, there is help available for them to try to piece their lives back together. There is no such help of someone who is falsely convicted, unless they can demonstrate that they were falsely accused. Why would we help someone we believed to be a rapist.
Not much. She would have had to have proof (beyond all reasonable doubt). Just saying someone has raped you is not enough to secure a conviction. It would need to be backed up by other evidence (independent witnesses, forensic evidence such as semen DNA etc.).
Yes, but without the actual hard evidence that he accused is fully innocent of the charges, there will always people who believe that there is no smoke without fire.
In this world, it is not enough to be simply found not guilty, one has to actually prove their innocence.
Yesterday, as she started a 16-month jail term for perverting the course of justice, Mr Asif, 34, said that without the app he would now be the one in jail.
It's quite worrying that the judge described this as being 'saved'. That implies he was actually at risk of conviction despite there being absolutely no form of evidence.
Perhaps he meant saved from a charge and consequential prosecution.
In a balanced world that would be the appropriate thing to do, but I doubt she has any assets to be sued for.
No, but if the court found in his favour, it's further evidence that he's innocent and proof of his good character. For some people, being accused but not formally charged isn't enough. The old "smoke and fire" scenario.
As a women this story disgust me. Poor man having this happen go him. This vile women could have ruined his life/marriage.
I know this is off topic and a little pedantic (well, quite a bit actually ), but why are so many people writing "women," instead of "woman?"
I must have seen at least five posters writing it that way? To write it just once in a post, could be seen as a typo, but three or four times in the same post; I am not so sure.

He doesn’t need any further evidence. He had the recording, the woman admitted the false allegation and he has been exonerated. Any further court proceedings won’t sate the minds of the idiots who believe there is no smoke without fire.
I just hope this incident and people blaming the woman does not scare the real victims of rape to speak the truth.
Trust the Daily Mail to make a big fuss about this.
Why shouldn't this woman be exposed, identified and pilloried? She has committed a serious crime, should we just ignore it and pretend these things don't happen?

I hope this woman gets identified because right now it just looks like a story invented by Iphone in collaboration with the forever misogynist the Daily Mail

I would call them victims too.
I'm not sure of your point.
If you read the whole post and the previous ones you might understand the context.
What is her thought process? Racism? The poor guy could have done 15 years in prison.
She should spend some time At Her Majesty's pleasure.
Indeed ~ you just wonder why anyone would want to do such a vile thing.
Racism ? ~ probably even the most rabid member of the EDL would not contemplate such behaviour.
She should definitely have got the same sentence he would have got if he'd been convicted.

Your finest work.
Why don't you contribute properly instead of just jabbing at a smilie instead, trying to look clever and failing immensely?

Which is what happens quite a lot in prisons, I understand, whether the accused is guilty or not.
Because he believes that he would not have been believed simply on his own testimony.

PS I'm crazy.
She already has been identified.
