I see Katie Hopkins turned up again on the awful Nolan Show last night.... a few weeks after her 'I can't stand people with tattoos' stint. Last night it was' I wont let my kids play with kids who have chavvy names' The only reason this woman is used is because she gets the phone ringing with outraged people who disagree with her...... do they not realise this is why she is on the show?
Thats why she's such a good contributer to a phone inn. She's also a media **** who'll always be available and go to a studio so producers love her.
I doubt she believes what she says but she gets talked about and gets the phones ringing. John Gaunt is the same, he can argue black is white and do it in a way that makes people want to call in. Thats the mark of a good phone inn host or guest.
I think the hppkins woman is awful but If I had a commercial talk station I'd give her a show because she'd generate calls and listeners.

Katie Hopkins: from Apprentice candidate to rent-a-gob The former reality-show contestant has enraged all and sundry by announcing that she doesn't like her kids playing with children who have the wrong sort of name.
“Do you think Bartoli’s dad told her when she was little 'You’re never going to be a looker? You’ll never be a Sharapova, so you have to be scrappy and fight.’”
The words of John Inverdale on Radio 5 earlier, in the wake of the Ladies' singles final at Wimbledon. How unprofessional do you have to be to be fired by Radio 5?
They also pay for the other national networks aswell as the local ones plus all of the local stations.
When you divide the annual licence fee into a daily rate and then divide that into the two hours that victoria is on you'll realise that the amount you perdonally pay her is so small it can't be counted. I'd say thats great value for money.
Nobody could disagree that, on balance, the BBC is good value for money - except that we don't pay for a lot of also great entertainment.
Personally I've not enjoyed Victoria since she went solo - she has a generally flat tone of voice which I think is not suited to radio - same with Rachel Burdon. They seem to have to force a conversational style. Burdon's voice often cracks when she's trying to inject a change of note.
As long as I am paying for this - I think it's appropriate to critique I'm afraid.

Oh dear- I didn't hear this but if this is a correct quote it really stinks!

5?
I am sure he wouldn't say the same about Murray compared to Nadal!
As for Katie Hopkins - Somebody after attention and clearly she enjoys it all.
Bit like somebody trolling on the internet.
She might have a point because I bet we have all looked at somebody and not liked them but then people tend to wait and find out what a person is really like rather than making "snap judgements" based on their name alone.
Mind you she gets people fired up and calling in which the rating chasers and money men will love!

It's unfortunate but I think it was a failed attempt at humour. I don't think it merits firing the guy. The BBC has done the right thing by apologising very quickly.
In comparison to some of the appalling stuff being written on Twitter about her that's tame.

Thats fair enough and she won't appeal to everyone. A lot of the posts on here about her go way beyond criticising her work. They are personal, nasty and repetative. Some seem fit to post about every little aspect of her show and make wild assumptiobs about her life.
If they were broadcast some posts on here would land the poster in court.

I hate to say this, but the producers who book her are just lazy knowing she does the job of filling airtime for them, but, 5Live really should be above that.
Inverdale is the best sports broadcaster on national radio, however it's not the first time this week that he's made some not so subtle hints about her physique. He's better than that.
I heard that comment by Inverdale and thought he was totally out of order. It was a completely unprofessional comment for him to make even if it was an attempt at "humour".
First time I've noticed Dotun not doing weekend overnight since about 2004. Andy Crane has done a sterling job on overnights to date and would be a welcome addition to the roster (VERY welcome at weekends)

Dotun missed two nights in 2010 when he flew on consecutive weekends to first Ghana and then Nigeria during the World Cup to host Up All Night and was flying out on one of the nights each weekend he would have been broadcasting. Ian Payne stood in for him on both occasions.
The programme he presented from Nigeria was a complete shambles with him sitting in a club amongst Nigerian football supporters during one of their matches mainly being ignored by the people in the club while trying to get some woman to sing "God Save The Queen". Total car crash radio

Bit rich coming from someone who looks like Quasimodos uglier brother and also factually incorrect as Bartoli is older than Sharapova.
But seriously what a sexist pillock, time for the BBC to fire his disgusting ass.
Why does the nolan show cut because of boring film talk, let's talk real issues and no film chat.
I was delighted to hear mayo instead of Nolan don't know why it was on but as I rarely receive mw in car around here I often miss the film reviews & anything that keeps Nolan off the airwaves is a good thing....
P.S. haven't been on for a bit been hectic with stuff but great to see some new posters here & can I also echo Cyril & thank all of you contributing whatever your views in getting this thread past 100 pages.. Cheers

I didn't hear that particular bit he is much better than that _wasn't on 5live but on Murray's win against Fernando 5lives Gary Richardson's 1st question post match to Murray was "Alex Ferguson was in the audience he's told off players in dressing room....blah blah blah.....so crass do they have to drag football into everything??
That's slight OT so guess it might get removed!
Bit over the top with all the calls to fire Inverdale, yes he was wrong to say it and the BBC was right to apologise but it is not a firing issue. The usual suspects in the papers are using it as an excuse for a bit more BBC bashing, the same papers that like to have photographs of attractive blond tennis players at the top of articles, as usual there are too many people making a drama out of being 'offended'. What I like about Inverdale is his relaxed style of broadcasting, he sounds natural saying what he thinks like he is just having a normal conversation without thinking about it, this type of presenter is bound to slip up and say something that offends occasionally but I would rather listen to him than some bland politically correct presenter.

Hmm, split here, I really thought the comments were terrible, but as you say the Hypocrisy from the papers who all would have had massive spreads on the "blonde pretty" Sabine if she'd won is pathetic.
Oh and the Mail in particular, because Amanda Platell put in something much more insulting about Serena yesterday.
Shocking from the Beeb to put the sexist pillock back on air, hopefully they'll quietly bin him when Wimbers is over and he crawls back under his stone.

Some of the other criticisms, as Station ID has pointed out, go way beyond the pale.

Presumably his absence was pre-planned but it's unusual to hear an edition of Up All Night at the weekend that he isn't hosting.
Also Rhod isn't on Up All Night next week. In his place is Andy Crane.

Yes it is - a sexist dinosaur like Inverdale has no place at the modern BBC.
Hmm, split here, I really thought the comments were terrible, but as you say the Hypocrisy from the papers who all would have had massive spreads on the "blonde pretty" Sabine if she'd won is pathetic.

Guess that's just free-speech though.
Sky fired Andy Gray after 20 years of comments like that that (although off camera)
The BBC should sign her up.Hopkins would be a good replacement for Derbyshire, at least we would get a good laugh every morning.
