I could swear he has either portrayed a gay man in a film or dressed as a woman, one or the other
Think 'Death Trap' with Christopher Reeve is the former, Dressed to Kill the latter.
Never going to agree with his politics, sure he'll lose sleep over that, but Caine was great as Harry Palmer, and in films like Sleuth, Educating Rita, Little Voice and (I just really like it, him playing a drunken hack actor!) Without A Clue.
And, of course, he's brilliant in 'A Muppet Christmas Carol'.
And that's not sarcasm, BTW. He's a brilliant Scrooge.
Does anyone remember The Hand, which Caine starred in?
Gawd, yes. There's a pattern forming here! (late 70's and quite a bit of the 80's...give us the paycheck, baby!) Even after Hannah and Her Sisters, in which he's very good, forgot that one, he did Jaws; The Revenge ("This time it's personal!" It's a bl**dy SHARK!!!)
Then there was 'Bullseye!' with Roger Moore. *Wish* I'd forgotten that one.
Still like him though...he's great in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. too.
Can't stand the fella . .
We're told by the media how wonderful this man is, so we're supposed to like him, or else.
F-Off . .
He's made so many sh*t movies . .
Dreadful actor & so overrated. .
He plays the same role in every film these days but I still find him very watchable and likeable. I don't care what his political leanings are...if I worried about what parties certain stars supported, or their religious beliefs, etc I don't think I'd be watching many films or TV shows or listening to much music. Why not just judge these people on their art? Anything else is closed-minded.
I think the film was Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock where I think he portrayed a gay man.
He's also gay in California Suite (as Maggie Smith's husband) which has the immortal line: 'Screw the Oscars. Screw the Academy Awards. Screw me, Sidney. Please. Please.' And definite undertones in Sleuth and Deathtrap.
I love Caine though I don't think he's the best 'natural' actor. What he does have is great film acting technique. Those acting masterclasses he did for Beeb are exhibit A.
Yes, made a lot of shit films but who hasn't? (Hopkins, De Niro, ad nauseum). Couldn't care less about his politics.

I haven't seen California Suite in years. Caine and Maggie Smith were comedy gold together. And I agree totally about his great film acting technique, much better than the likes of some others who were hailed as good actors (Richard Burton bellowing at his fellow performers with his 'great actor's voice';))
I like a lot of Michael's films, he seems like a decent bloke off screen, no whiff of infidelity regarding his long marriage to the lovley Shakira, was good to his younger brother, the far less successfull actor Stanley Caine, Stanley did not like to accept money from Micheal but he always treated his brother and his wife to luxury holidays and when he found out he had a half brother in a mental assylum, whom his mother had kept secret from the family, he visited him as soon as discovering his exsistance and did so until the man died.

I agree his marriage seems like one of the most genuine and stable. I didn't know about his brother and half-brother...this makes me like Sir Michael even more. He sounds like a great role model and who cares who he votes for.
I love Michael Caine, one of my favourite actors and has starred in some of my favourite films. I don't care about actors' politics. Although, being anti-Labour if I wouldn't watch anything which starred their supporters, I'd be stuck with Michael Caine films forever!

He's 80 now. I'm very Impressed that he has made 23 movies since he turned 70.
I hear he was stung by the criticism...

wow... thats an amazing stat... will he ever retire ?

How about the Jaws one (number 4?), were we are expected to believe that sharks are driven by the desire for revenge on the Brady family?
Or the the sequel to the Poiseden Adventure?
And quite funny he was too. He played the guy who was brought in by the FBI to do Sandra's make up and wardrobe for Miss World.

I have it in a Twisted Terror Warner Bros set. R0 from Amazon US
Got that set for Deadly Friend, weird robot film and Eyes of a Stranger.
A mate of mine had this on DVD. I just found it VERY depressing.

The scene were he's checking Steve Martin's legs is hilarious.
