New Spider Man to be gay perhaps.
Found this little bit of info earlier on, and wondered what people thought about it.

Now, I know the usual IGN comments of woe are in action complete with anti-gay nonsense, but to be honest, I am kinda split on him being gay.
On the one hand, at no point has he been gay, or even hinted at. It would be stupid to make him gay, as its not spiderman. Imagine if they just decided Batman was going to be cast as a middle aged black women. I mean it could be done sure, but it doesnt make any sense and non of the back story would add up. Same here, the back story, in fact, all spiderman canon would cease to make sense if taking this film idea into the spider universe.
But on the other hand, after the first film, the series is now in the toilet at the very low end of the film spectrum. SOMETHING pretty drastic needs to be done to combat this, although making him gay doesnt strike me as expanding him, so much as changing him. It could work, I mean Heath as the Joker was originally laughed at because he was seen as a week family actor, and that turned out pretty awesome. Maybe this could work, and a gay super hero could open new story ideas.
But sadly I know his "gayness" will be played up to cover the fact that the films havent done so well of late and people have lost a lot of interest. Its good they are branching out for something to put some life back into the movies, but not sure if this is a bold idea or a desperate attempt to garner press for an ailing franchise.
Any other spidey fans care to shine some light on this, tell me it will all be ok and the film will be amazing, help me keep some hope alive....

It also made $752m, more than triple it's production budget. I'm sure Sony are very disappointed with it's performance, and are now grasping for any attention they can possibly get to hide that fact. (That was sarcasm, it's made about $146m profit for them).
Why does everyone online want to trash The Amazing Spider-man? It seems to have become the fashionable movie to slame, which is a shame because it was quite good, and I like Marc Webb as a director...
Regards
Mark
Still, its not worth worrying about. It was an off-the-cuff comment by Andrew Garfield that is NEVER going to come to fruition. Its not going to happen, not in a million years (ok, well, technically it might happen in a million years, but I won't be here to listen to anyone saying "I told you so," so I don't care )
btw - no Green Goblin jokes, please.
Really enjoyed the 2002-2007 series and disappointed they didn't carry on making them.
Couldn't care less if this new SM was gay, bi or transgender. I would still not want to watch it.
I can't remember what it was, but it just said to me he clearly doesn't like gay people but he covered it up in an ambigious answer.
But lovely to see such a forward-thinking actor (or maybe just a gay/bi one. Who knows. He sure seems comfortable with the idea!)
Out of curiosity, why did you hate it? Loads of people have voiced their displeasure on the internet, but not once has anybody provided a reason as to why they hated it...
I don't read/follow the comic books.
It may just be complimentary but it doesn't sound too much different to what has happened here.
The only way to answer that would be to expose you to a massive spoiler, so read on at your own peril:
That's it. I officially give up on modern attitudes towards every bloody thing.
Spiderman is a superhero. His sexuality is of NO IMPORTANCE to anyone. He's supposed to go around saving people. That's why kids want to watch it.
People say our attitudes have moved on. All that's really happened is that we've lost all our common sense.
Grow up.
It's no big deal.
It is a bit though. Never in the history of Spider-Man has it been hinted at that he's gay, so the only reason to change that is equal opportunities box ticking. It's the same for the ridiculous idea presented in another thread on here about making James Bond gay.
I'm not homophobic, but i don't like the idea of a gay Spider-Man, and i imagine that i'm definitely not alone in feeling that way. By all means, make a film about a gay superhero, but don't force it onto another character that has a long history of being straight.
This is kind of all moot anyway since it seems quite clear that Andrew Garfield's comment was mean to be taken in a jovial sense.
I guess Peter Parker must have been in denial for the last 50 years.
IMO if he's gay he isnt the same character, just like if you made Spiderman a girl (see the parody Spiderbabe) it wouldnt be the same. Superman and Supergirl are different characters for example.
The 2002 film doesn't follow the comic book continuity. Similarly, he had organic web shooters in the film, but they were always mechanical in the comic. Gwen was simply written out of the story for the film, assumedly because MJ is the more well-known character among the general public.
