Funny as that may be, even 'indirectly' is somewhat conservative for the actual situation. There are several levels of investment seperating the CoE from this investment. Pretty much unaviodable in the circumstances of international investment. At least he has stated the facts and not backed down from his original stance.
Quicker these leech companies are put out of business the better.
I've been saying that for ages but I suspect we have a long time yet before we see the back of the churches.
That was a lovely Op. Unfortunately, Welby intending to do good did not check all his facts first. But, I think that this new venture might just work. Like when the church had to check their investment/property ownership in Israel/Palestine due to moral grounds then it is time to do the same here. Scrutiny does no harm.
Perhaps they got a bit complacent and assumed their investments were going into ethical concerns, but that wasn't quite the case. Embarrassing, but not that much more, I'd say.
And, there have been a few cases of abuse directed at the CofE Clergy!
I know, but in addition to there only being a few CofE cases, as far as I'm aware there doesn't seem to have been a systematic campaign to cover things up, which is the main charge levied against the RC church.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is understood to be "furious" after the Church of England confirmed it invests indirectly in online lender Wonga.
Tut tut. He of all people should know that wrath is a sin, one of the seven deadly sins no less. I suggest he has a nice sit down with an extra strong cup of tea and plenty of deep breaths.
Part of Welby's assault on Wonga was to offer Credit Unions CofE financial advice. I would suggest they seek such assistance from an organisation that has a better understanding of its own finances.
Cannot believe the CofE did not check and double check its own income sources before mounting their campaign. Incredible.

INDULGENCES
Maybe he ought to go back to commentating on Eurovision instead.
(At the credit union)
That's 20 seconds of thinking time I'll never get back...
Very nice. I got nothing.
Thanks for that. It looks like I was wrong
Oi
Erm, how many characters does a post need?
It shouldn't have happened, it's very embarrassing
I have been waiting all of my life to hear a politician say those words.
I want to give him some credit (probably not from Wonga).
