Thanks, RobSmithS. I just thought the advert would say 'You WILL get HD free for a year', but I see what you mean. Some subscribers might not have HD equipment. We'll see what happens on Aug. 1.
I wonder why BT Sport 1 HD and BT Sport 2 HD are encrypted. Wouldn't BT want people to see the channels on the Sky EPG, take a look and see the promo loops?
Are they encrypted now then? They were clear for non-subscribers yesterday.
When I did mine online, BT Sport HD was added automatically after I entered my viwing card number.
They obviously would know what box I had if they have access to the card / box pairing information (I'm going to assume they do).
At no point did it ask what type of Sky box I had.
I did it by phone a week last Thursday (see mega post on here that night) when BT royally messed up everything they touched.
In fact I am still waiting for them to get their act together after 10 hours on the phone to their diabolical customer service.
Until trying to get BT Sport enabled we had a perfectly working phone and broadband. Now we have two phones - one to make calls on (but that you cannot receive calls on) and one that just receives calls.
We also have big bills for stuff we do not owe or that they have charged more than once. Yet another promise that BT will resolve the mess on Tuesday (it keeps sliding backwards). Oh and a message from their on line help customer services yesterday in reply to my e mail requesting assistance (after giving up on the phone).
My post was sent 8 days ago. The reply wonderfully advises me that I am nearing the front of the queue for my e mail to be replied to!
Nothing but a catalogue of chaos and confusion.
Oh, and relevant to this thread - they did not ask whether we had an HD box either, had to go to Sky by post to get it activated and when it was activated a few days later they put it onto the wrong box (our multiroom and not main box).
However, the HD channel appears to be activated....though how do you know when it is just promos? I was going off the lack of a plug on it asking us to subscribe.

Yes, I saw that monster post. Sorry to hear it has been such a farce for you.
If I had been with BT and they had altered my phone package because of signing up for BT Sport, then it'd be nothing more than a slight inconvenience (well, more of an "Ah, OK then, whatever!") as I barely use my phone line - I only have it for the broadband really. However, it seems that your phone line is pretty essential to you for your day-to-day life.
This is precisely why these companies need to explicitly state what will happen when you add / remove a product. It seems that BT have been so desperate to add BT Sport to customers' accounts that they have neglected their responsibility to tell the relevant customer what will actually happen.
I doubt that sending a message to Ofcom would help much, but they'll soon take some notice if BT have mucked up enough accounts and people have complained.
I would also push for plenty of credit on your account for the inconvenience - it's simply not good enough from such a massive organisation.
Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon.
I understand that not everybody likes to do these things online, but I always opt to do things like this online as it reduces the rist of me encountering the kind of muppet from a CS team that Jaycee Dove has clearly had the misfortune of dealing with.
pete u have wrong date m8.. it all kicks of
thurs 01 august at 6pm ...
It does indeed, but the subs start on the 2nd! I can't imagine they would get away with charging a full days subscription for a service that only starts at 6pm
I thought it might be an idea for them to put a slate up on at least one channel saying something like if you can see this your card has been activated.
I ordered on Friday and they have taken the card payment so assume everything is in order. Someone said that BT Sport 2 SD is usually scrambled and I can get that so I presume it's been activated.
Just had a look at the bt sport schedule and it seems they are making it impossible to follow. Some bundesliga games on bt sport and some on espn, then the same with ligue 1. How will they present this on different channels? Same presenters in different studios to match the channel? just seems a mess to me

All four are in the clear now. When you posted before, 446 was scrambled!!

No they're not "in the clear". They're encrypted, albeit apparently at a "low level". There are versions of the SD channels FTA but I think they're the old ones that will be removed soon.
Presumably the encryption level will change on Wednesday.

It would be nice to with subscribers a bit clearer!
Smart move. It will of cost peanuts and means they can advertise to the Sky Rugby viewers during the Heineken cup games plus they have SPL coverage so a scottish based team sponsorship makes sense.

When I said "Yes" they then said that's great you will therefore get free HD for a year.
So the point is they wanted and needed to know that I had an HD box.

Maybe they're just encrypted at the lowest level though, like FTV or Entertainment.
I can view them (sport with HD sub, not signed up for BT Sport yet).
If I was BT I would have been free until 18th Aug, done whaty Sky are doing for the opening day
I think its just Sky sports which is free on the opening weekend of the premier league

Wrong, soon find out

The whole launch just seems a bit of a botch to me, be it on BT or on the Sky platform.
Let's hope the coverage is better!
