Personally I'm a bit bored of the Brave vs Roar, both great songs and they don't really sound all that alike. Tbh it's likely they were both conceived completely separately and I would imagine Roar had been recorded or at least written before Brave was even released.
This. I just don't get the people saying the songs are identical. They are slightly similar, yes, but that's it.
Roar is selling twice as much as Applause on US iTunes. Queen.
yes, but how long can that possibly continue? gaga is gaining all the time and her fanbase will be out in force to make this song happen for her. "roar" is the better song though in my opinion.
Heard it properly for the first time last night. I love it! Wish they'd bring the release forward in the UK/Ireland though. It annoys me that the US already has it and we have to wait another few weeks for it

Most die-hard GaGa stans either have already purchased it the song or intend to purchase it within the next few hours. After that, it's all up to the general public and considering the mixed response 'Applause' has received, I doubt Katy has much to fear. The two versions of 'Applause' COMBINED are selling less than half of what Katy is selling right now. That indicates, imo, that GaGa will probably get the #1 spot and only stay there for a few hours or won't get the #1 spot at all.

i hope you're right, because i think "roar" is the better song, but its still morning in the us and early morning in some parts. now people are starting the day there, so perhaps its too early to call.
It's not much of a brainer that Katy's going to win in the long run. 'Roar' is a more friendly song with more general public appeal and better critical reception. But I did NOT expect her to win the initial race too! On her first official day of airplay, she had almost double the impressions GaGa had today and she's still #1 in a huge number of markets, including the US. Quite impressive!

Me too! I think it comes down to the fact that though Gaga has that larger, deranged fan base; Katy always has the GP supporting her who logistically will win out every time. 8)
THis Gaga-Perry battle wont happen in the UK cos of diff release dates?? Am I right there?
Somewhat controversially I think Katy Perry's pop career might outlast Gaga's. Gaga has a massive fanbase, but she's not doing anything to win over the casuals & Burqa doesnt seem to be any better in that respect.
What makes a star is a catcht 3 minute pop song, as Rihanna & Britney Spears have shown. Gaga's songs are too complex and self indulgent, KP knows that simplicity is best

Of course she'll outlast Gaga. I think Gaga went too odd too soon, and wore off the general public.
For Gaga to keep getting press and out-do herself she has to do something really, really spectacular. Like, how do you even get worse than wearing a meat dress?
I do like Gaga's music (mostly her The Fame album), but a lot of her fame has come from her over the top persona/image. There comes a point where she can't go further.
Katy, however, has had somewhat of an image too but it's not as strong, and she's had a lot of success based on the songs. She can reinvent herself and keep it fresh enough to sell music, but familiar enough to keep her "sound".
Katy is still #1 on US iTunes and GaGa, with the 2 versions of 'Applause' COMBINED, is selling about 60% of what 'Roar' is selling atm.
I love how the tables have turned. Before the track's rush release, everybody was saying she would defeat Katy and now that she's still struggling to do so after almost a full day of sales in the States, her fans, especially on other forums, have completely changed their attitude.

I agree and I'm quite surprised. And not at Katy shading GaGa back on Twitter...."claws out, paws up".

they are quite similar, but not overly so. the "backlash" has revived "brave" on itunes in the us, so i doubt sara is complaining too much.
I do love the song btw
Good! It's a better song.
This news makes me happy as its simply a better song.

It will be as its been out longer.
Wouldn't the newly released song technically sell better? I mean, the rush purchases and people going all "oh shiny, new!!!1"

that is good news in terms of billboard chart position if it continues that way.
Katy's second day of adds were only slightly less than Gaga's first days too :eek::eek:
that is good, i almost want to fast forward a few weeks and see which song ultimately triumphs. it is exciting though, all this drama.:o
