A few comments on the press pack, which is LOADED with spoilers. Some things we've been wondering about are explained. Some things are even more confusing (to me, anyway).
In the intro, they tease us with a will-they-won't-they get married thing, but once you download and get into the text of the press pack itself, everyone talks about the wedding. And the HONEYMOON at a remote, romantic hunting lodge deep in the woods. So we know how they get there, it's a gift from the villagers and Bert escorts them there, but I'm still confused by their being "left" there. Wouldn't it be normal for them to be left alone on their honeymoon? But it sounds like they get abandoned there and maybe have to set off on their own to find their way home. But does the fact that CC says she had to have four versions of the wedding dress, with 3 in various stages of demise, mean she's wandering around in the woods in her wedding dress? I guess so. But why would they set off trying to get home ON their wedding night? Or could it be that they wait until the next day (and have no other clothes with them, as Bert has taken them off on this "magical mystery tour" without warning them they need to have changes of clothes with them?)??? Now we have more info, but I'm still confused.

We knew from Dr. Scurr that the Doc would make a misdiagnosis, but in this press pack MC says he KEEPS getting things wrong. This is more dramatic than a single misdiagnosis, but also quite confusing. I'm a little concerned that the noise and chaos of the three of them living together in the surgery is part of his problem and he withdraws into himself (this doesn't sound pleasant). His attempts to diagnose himself sound almost like the actions of a hypochondriac. Glad to hear he finally goes to Aunt Ruth for help. I'm struggling with the sequence of events, however.

It's Al out there, starting a B&B, complete with fishing and barbecuing! Meanwhile, Bert has started a B&B too. And, sure enough, he's in love with, and proposes to, the new pharmacist.
What is Mummy's "sad news"? Dad is dead? Not so sad for Martin, I wouldn't think. She has a terminal illness? That could explain her change of heart and desire to reconnect with her son and to meet her grandson.

I don't know if anyone answered that in between, and I apologize for repetition if that's the case, but in S2 we have Al and Pauline on Doc's kitchen table snogging like mad. I always love his reaction "it's unhygienic, I eat here!"
It doesn't make sense. She's still in character and MC is not.
I took it that CC is just intently listening to what the director has to say (and maybe practicing how he is telling her to stand). Of course, MC appears to be hamming it up as usual.

Good point. You're right. If he feels emotional or a sense of loss, he wouldn't understand it, would he? Right now I'm betting that she's got a terminal illness. I can't see her making a trip from Spain to Portwenn to report on the illness or death of Dad. For one thing, they're separated or divorced. For another, I think she would just call or write with that news. I've been searching for something that would cause her to suddenly want to connect with Martin. If she's dying, that could be it.
The press pack says Bert "escorts" Martin & Louisa to the hunting lodge. I wonder if he'll be the one driving that big, old Rolls.

Some questions: 1) Do you think Bert has grown or progressed from S1 to S5? 2) How important is he to the Doc? 3) How important to Louisa? 4) Is Bert more of a help or hindrance to Al? 5) Overall, is Bert to be laughed at, admired, or pitied?

In not one shot do I see the Doc looking contented or happy. Seems scared, sad, stern - the 3 S's. At least not as angry as I perceived him to be in much of S5. So, I guess overall maybe more fragile. That's prob good, but I am not looking forward to

But they're describing it as a roller coaster, which means there will be high points too, not all low. I'm not sure why, but I think we'll hit a low point about mid-series and then there will be a dramatic upturn toward the end. I just don't want her to walk down that hill again. Or if she does, I want him to finally chase after her.
He and Louisa both look quite content to me in the scene in which he performs some kind of action (still can't figure out what) and then they look at each other. I think in the scenes leading up to the wedding he's just plain terrified and nervous.
In that scene in which we see him looking at the vial of blood, yes, he looks very, very sad, but it's understandable since the blood phobia is back.

1. I can't say he's grown or progressed, no, but he has changed. In some instances in S1 the character was completely different from the funny, lovable Bert we know now. For example, he smoked and drank. He played a quite mean joke on the Doc (think ketchup).
2. In the Doc's opinion, not at all! But Bert's the one who talked Martin into staying in Portwenn. At AJ's funeral he spoke the words for Martin that Martin couldn't say, "That woman meant everything to you."
3. Bert's very important to Louisa. He's like family to her, sort of a mother and father figure in a way. When she returned to PW pregnant, the Doc was shocked and unable to say the right things, the folks in the pub were stunned, the girls on the street giggled & made fun. Only Bert was openly welcoming and nonjudgmental. He's also known her forever & knows her parents well. When JH was first brought home, Bert stepped in like most new mothers' moms would do and showed Louisa how to do this and that with the baby.

I was actually surprised that he held up so wel during S5 to the noise and confusion and mess of living with Louisa and JH after having had such a precisely ordered solitary existence. Maybe his careful distancing from Louisa was his way of reactin to that. So it seems quite natural to me that he should start to react, or rather, that his stress begins to make itself felt in more overt ways.
Is the blood phobia return tied up with his living on intimate terms with two other people, about which he may still be somewhat conflicted ?
I'm having a hard time figuring what Mom could have told him that makes him so unhappy. Maybe Margaret is dying and the full weight of never having had a mother who unconditionally loved him, is hitting home.
Interesting too that CC says that Louisa continues to try to "improve" him even tho it's "ridiculous" to do so. I hope Aunt Ruth can help, as some of us have suggested would happen,
Also, whoever suggested that the scene in the car on the way to the Castle, particularly when Louisa mentioned getting "our baby" back, was the real turning point, was right on target, and I think CC's comments make that clear -- that they wanted to parent together.

I'm having a hard time figuring what Mom could have told him that makes him so unhappy. Maybe Margaret is dying and the full weight of never having had a mother who unconditionally loved him, is hitting home.
Interesting too that CC says that Louisa continues to try to "improve" him even tho it's "ridiculous" to do so. I hope Aunt Ruth can help, as some of us have suggested would happen,
Also, whoever suggested that the scene in the car on the way to the Castle, particularly when Louisa mentioned getting "our baby" back, was the real turning point, was right on target, and I think CC's comments make that clear -- that they wanted to parent together.
