Screen grab of what it looks like. I am lost.
I am on windows vista, only thing i have tried so far is system restore which did not help.

Make sure you download the right thing, and read the instructions carefully!
And if you have a browser with an ad blocker use that to go to whatever download site Malwarebytes points you at. There have been several threads on DS recently about people clicking the first "Download Now" button they see and end up downloading something completely different instead. Usually because an ad on the webpage has a more prominent button than the real one. Use an ad blocker and you probably won't see the spurious download buttons.
I think Browser Defender is something that's associated with our old friend Delta search and toolbar, so you might find that has taken over your browser.
But a Malwarebytes scan should get rid of it. You may also have to manually set your search engine back to what it was before, in the browser settings (after the Malwarebytes scan).
Worst comes to worst there's about 20 computer repair shops in 5 mins of me... rather not but if desperate...
Well, you do seem to have AVG antivirus prog in your system tray. Do you think it's not a genuine AVG alert?
Browser Defender is recognized malware, but Malwarebytes should get rid of it for you.
ETA: I notice in that pic that you posted that there is a tab marked 'Babylon search'. That is all part of the same malware. Get rid of that.
Try uninstalling all unrecognized software in Control Panel - Babylon search, Delta search, Browser defender, Lyric Content - anything like that.
Some of it might uninstall, some might refuse.
Then do a scan with Malwarebytes in safe mode. Then go back and delete any remnants, and return your search engine to Google (or whatever you usually use).
Well I went through my programs and deleted a load of stuff however there is a program called browser defender and when I tried to remove that it said I didn't have permission to do so. I am the only user of the computer so no idea why
Edit. Ah I see you said some stuff might not uninstall.
That stops certain things from automatically loading with Windows and can often let you get rid of stuff that you can't do in "normal" mode.
And try running a full Malwarebytes scan in safe mode as well as that often helps it do it's job.
