I'm really enjoying the last night at the proms, being a staunch nationalist, republican and socialist I should probably be against this sort of pomp but the music is great and the folk seem to be enjoying themselves(Belfast aside) so I can have a beer and ditch the Wolfie Smith stuff. Music does indeed embrace all.

I'm the same. I always feel slightly guilty at enjoying such obvious patriotism.
Thanks! I just remember the music and that is had a sad story attached to it. I used to go to Royal Marine's concerts all the time so years ago and they must have played it it there.

I didn't realise it was lost.
My grandfather lost his life during the Arctic Convoys too; so very poignant for me too.

Possibly "dreadful" was a little strong. But I have to say that I really disliked what she did to "Rule Brittania" too.
