Evening everyone, I am a bit of a silver surfer and often have to do long journeys. I am looking for a tablet that I can download movies or books on to watch/read on the train.
I did buy a Kindle Fire HD but it doesn't seem to suit my requirements. I am not very proficient on tablets, I was only just getting used to netbooks!
Does anyone have any recommendations, I just want my kids to upload a few movies or books for me to keep me amused on long train and plane journeys.
What is best for a silver surfer like me? I don't want to 'buy' apps to give me what I know I can get for free. My kids are pretty au fait with Android and say that would be best for me but I am not sure which tablet to get? All help gratefully received! Thanks in advance

At the 7" size the Nexus 7 is hands down the best. At larger sizes, the iPad is arguably the best pure tablet.
Windows tablets are interesting if you want something in between a tablet and a laptop.
Personally I think iOS probably has the simplest interface when it comes to tablets.
Indeed, a Kindle Fire or any other android or apple tablet will do what you want.
Perhaps you should qualify why you think that the KF doesn't 'suit your requirements'.
For what you want to do the Kindle Fire HD is perfect for...so what is it you don't like about it?
Also although it's not clear underneath the user interface the Kinde Fire HD is an Android tablet.
Thank you for all of your comments. I don't like the Kindle Fire because its only wi fi operable. I wish to watch movies whilst on the move so need to download. I don't like the fact that I have to enter my bank details in order to get the free apps, my kids will use it from time to time and I don't think the 'one click payment' is a good idea. I am only a beginner and just want to simply watch a movie or read a book without entering all my details. I have tried getting a gift card but can only find one for £50 in Asda.
Storing on Cloud is like another language to me. I think Android may be better as the Kindle Fire is beholden to Amazon only. My kids tell me that it would be better for me to have Android and a friend who is very computer savvy tried to work the KIndle out and gave up!
Also I find it quite heavy to keep propped up, not rheumatism friendly!
When you say the Fire is only wifi operable do you mean you want a 3G capable tablet? also If you dont enter payment details how are you going to purchase movies to download?
They work like a dream and are very fast. Doesn't get over your lack of on-the-move connectivity though - although tethering to an android smartphone is easy [using FoxFi] if you have an unlimited data plan.
Streaming movies over 3G isn't a great idea. It's going to cost you a fortune in data costs. You are much better buying and downloading the movies at home using wifi before travelling.
Overseas I tend to rely on Wifi only but you could buy a pre-paid local SIM if you wanted to.
