Sol Campbell: playing the racism card
I have to say I feel desperately sorry for this multi-millionaire with an enormous sense of entitlement and zero qualifications. Of course he should set the issue of racism in football back aways by manufacturing an example in order to self serve his own bogus aspirations. Hey Sol, you could even get a qualification first and then look for a job ... you know, like the rest of the population does:
Fwiw, the last I heard of Sol's aspirations he was considering options from Hollywood. Of course you were Sol, they probably let you down because you are black.
Asked what his long-term plans are, Campbell's mood darkens. "I want to start abroad," he says. "There are no opportunities for me here, not until attitudes change anyway. Everyone has to ask themselves why there are not more black managers in this country and why the likes of Brian Deane have to go abroad [to Sarpsborg 08 in Norway] to get a chance. I've spoken to other black players who want to coach and they feel the same, that attitudes here are archaic. I hope and pray the environment changes."
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/sep/27/sol-campbell-racism-manager-arsenal" I still wanted to do something with the England setup, and they said they were interested, but the interest went cold. Suddenly, Gary Neville pops up as assistant manager. It's obvious they want nice people who won't cause them any problems. I put out an olive branch and it got broken, but whatever, I'm ready to move on."

No surprise he hasn't got anything substantial.
He's been waiting for the right job to come along like england assistant manager
He's talking bollocks.
I can't see a single reference to race here, whether explicit or implicit. him having a personal issue with the FA doesn't automatically equate to him accusing them of racism.
not
unless you're suggesting he thinks they're the same thing?
More people, players and coaches should try this, as it widens their knowledge base I would say.
Indeed. I also think there's an unwillingness with some of these big-name ex-players to take a job lower down the football pyramid in this country too, as if they feel it's beneath them. I'm sure if Campbell was serious about it and actually earned all of his coaching qualifications he would find a club that would take a punt on him.
Whether going abroad is a good idea or not really is missing the point by quite a margin though is it not?
Doing it because you want to do it to broaden your horizons is one thing, doing it because you have to because you cant get work in this country is quite another*
*I hasten to add im not saying Campbell has any entitlement to a job in this country or that his complaints hold water, im just saying that its a different issue.
it's a lazy argument, as is the assumption Campbell isn't "serious about it", especially as the majority of the article concerns him coaching youth players, and ends with implying he's working towards his qualifications.
Like I said in my post, it is my thoughts. I'm not stating it as a fact. My impression is based upon the lack of high profile players thesedays that actually go into managing teams lower than Championship level. Yes, there could be other reasons for that but i suspect the opportunities would be there if they themselves were that interested.
I didn't say Campbell wasn't serious about it. I said IF he is. Big difference there.
Frank Sinclair, ex Chelsea, is managing Colwyn Bay. He was happy to start at the bottom and work his way up.
Do you even know what the Pyramid is?
Frank always seems like a humble guy to me, and it's the perfect example of someone who is prepared to try and work his way up from a lower level. I think there are opportunities around, it's just a question of whether they're willing to do that or not.
the fact that you can name a handful doesn't mean there isn't an issue
I'm fully aware of what the pyramid is, thanks for asking.
I just looked them up as it's a club I wasn't familiar with either. They're in Norway's top professional league though, so it's not that bad a job really considering it's his first managerial position.
That probably has more to due with his lack of opportunity.
Ince despite choosing to start out at Swindon was also wanted at the time by much bigger clubs such as Birmingham City, even with no managerial experience whatsoever.
Tigana was given his PL job 13 years ago, Ince lasted 6 months in the PL in 2008.
Id say you have confirmed that there is an issue there rather than rebuffed it.
Who will now, be willing to give him a chance seeing as he has just made sweeping statements about people in general, yes he might have reservations, or hold these beliefs, that is fine, but what good does saying it in public do?
I really don't get why he has said these things on the record, it will only further hinder his chances of getting a job in his chosen, or prefered profession.
If he has to go abroad now, so be it, no one forced him to go public, he did so of his own free will, and who knows it might actually be beneficial for him in the long run.
