I feel nervous watching him because he makes me cringe so badly and I end up having to change the channel until he's gone.
Who was that cringe-worthy guy last year who kept trying to "banter" with the judges and it always fell horribly flat? *shudder* Julian has that effect.
I like a bit of genuine enthusiasm - who wants 15 Rachbots? - but a) I'm not convinced Julien's enthusiasm IS entirely genuine, it felt fake and as though he were following a "superfan finally gets the gig and is soooo excited about it" script (which, let's face it, he probably is) and b ) there's enthusiastic and then there's ear-bleedingly loud and screechy.
I can just imagine the second the cameras were off him, he'd be rolling his eyes and bitching at and about everything and everyone.

Have you seen him on It takes two? That's how he was there all the time. Maybe it's his fake TV persona, but he's consistent with it.

I must admit I thought he was much worse last night than on ITT and doubt he will have gained much public support either.
I don't dislike the guy, but personally I don't like his ITT slot. I understand what a coup it is to have him on, but I preferred Hilary's style and...well, anybody else who did the frock slot!
I always thought Zandra Rhodes was best in the Get Frocked section. Enthusiastic and eccentric without having to resort to speaking in whistle register (a'la Julien)

I think he just scaled it up for a bigger studio  I hope he'll watch himself and notice dead silences after each time he said something and expected a reaction from the audience.
Wow...that performance was just awful and his behaviour is abysmal..I can't even...
I know already that he'll annoy the sh*t out of me as long as he's there....not funny, very loud and overbearing and just arggghhhh...

Me too, although I just hope he can take the feedback and still enjoy his time on the show. I don't want the guy to be devastated.
I really do think he was 'on something'. I remember when he was a judge on Project Catwalk, that fashion competition with Kelly Osbourne, and he was nothing like the OTT krazy that he portrayed last night.
What he was notable for was being the bitchiest judge.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8868hVu1dk. Looks like he's trying to reinvent himself as Strictly's campest contestant (stiff competition for that admittedly).
Utterly vile person and his behaviour momentarily brought the tone of the show into dispute for the first time imo. It made me want to make a complaint and I reckon the show will be having words with him because it was completely unacceptable for Sat night TV. It will be interesting to see if perception changes and it's him that goes instead of Tony.
I get a 'whiff' of Jan Ravens about him. When the boot mercifully comes, he won't go quietly.
I was willing to give him a chance but my god, he's done himself no favours. There's camp OTT but this almost deranged. Poor Janette, I hope she gets a wardrobe full of free clobber for her trouble. Bet she's been putting valium in the water cooler.

My thoughts as well, after seeing his first appearance each subsequent one was immediately muted, the slot was so much better with Hilary.
In that case Terry judging by his antics on ITT last year and last night's performance (If you could call it a performance) he must be like a cat on a hot tin roof the whole time.

I used to enjoy Project Catwalk... and that's true he wasn't like this at all.. then.
He was obviously very excited but nervous at the same time which all manifested itself in this very ott (and sort of child-like) behaviour. Hopefully his next dance will see a calmer side to him which, with it being Ballroom, should help things (you would think).
On this first dance, I think it needed a better standard of dancer (i.e. Natalie) in which to make it look good and for the theme to come across better, but he just didn't really pull the style off, as well as not really grasp the skill either. But we should prob see how his Ballroom goes, as I think alot of yest was this building excitment that went abit too much to his head.
It looks as though he might struggle to win the public vote but I suspect (based on this weekend's performances) he would survive a dance-off against Tony, Vanessa, Ben and Ashley.

Judging by the comments on this thread can you imagine what the Great British Public thought?
I am sure all those you mentioned, even Vanessa would survive the dance off if they are up against this creature.

I don't think comments on DS are particularly representative of the GBP and the judges vote to save based on a couples performance on the dance floor and however irritating Julien might have been when he opened his mouth, at this stage he appears to have more dancing ability than the others I mentioned but we'll be in an even better position to judge next week.
He seemed to be high - but maybe it was high anxiety. I don't like him, he seems fake. But we'll see. I doubt the public will want to keep him iin after that spectacle. It was totally double cringeworthy.
Comments
Richard Arnold? He was painful to watch as well.

I'm not wasting good winegums on him. 10 pence I found down the back of the sofa and a blackened banana, final offer

He'll milk it for all it's worth though:mad:

Agree it was unnecessary silly man

Me too! The sooner the better!
