I don't think it's on that she's forcing it on people. If anyone comes into our work with a baby I just tend to ignore it.

When it comes to babies a lot of things are strange. My wife is pregnant and all of a sudden people seem to think that I've suddenly developed an interest in their kids and babies. In actual fact nothing has changed and I still don't care about other peoples kids or want to see pictures of them.

I absolutely detest this. I do not want my staff wasting time cooing over some whiny little sprog. If you wanted kids then fine, but don't feel the need to burden an already stretched workforce thanks to your continuing absence.

I suppose a quick flying visit is ok, but staying for hours is a bit weird. I never took mine into work at all. There's a girl at work still brings her daughter in to see people now and she is two! We aren't interested love!! She's been back at work over a year! She is one of those who have no conversation except her daughter though. Some people can't go a sentence without mentioning they have a baby/daughter/son.

Banned in our office. You can bring your baby into the office foyer, but that's as far as it goes.

What a miserable office you must work in unless its a workplace full of dangerous equipment/machinery!

I see nothing wrong with it, someone goes off to have a baby, they bring the baby in to show it off. Seems perfectly reasonable to me and cant see how anyone can have such a negative opinion of it! Its a tradition and long may it continue! If they stay longer than is reasonable and start to have a detrimental affect on production then fair enough, but a quick half hour visit to see everyone is harmless!

I did it once. Literally in the office for 15 mins, then my wife took him home.

It counted against me in my next review as someone had made an issue of it.

    Bastards!

When you start getting Congratulations! banners - pink for a girl / blue for a boy - and cards strung up across the office, you know you have some serious baby love in your workplace.

FFS that's just bollox! I would have called them on that, as it doesn't relate to your work! Miserable bastards!!

I did the same, 15 mins then off home with the 'then' Mrs 2Open. Though in my defence, the women in the office insisted I brought him in! :D

Second, the poor woman has gone from working in a social environment with adult company to 100% one on one attention with a helpless child, and is probably quite keen on maintaining adult company one way or another. 9 hours of baby talk a day can drive you round the twist.

    Aye, this.

Babies are cute when they aren't defecating, spewing and screaming. As babies tend to do these things quite frequently, the workplace is hardly the ideal scenario for them. Leave your baby chained to a post outside love, and come in for a cappuccino and a catch up. lol
    Good plan :D

Took our puppy in when we got her, everyone was asking to see her and she had a brilliant couple of hours of intensive socialising. Not too keen on babies but can completely understand people wanting to show them off hopefully it socialises them too ;)

That would be me, lol. I've no babies but adore my pets. I did once take my pup into work but it was a one-to-one meeting and my supervisor wanted to see him. I also once took a guinea pig into work for a day because he'd had surgery and needed 24 hour obs. He was no trouble. Kipped in a box under the desk all day, didn't make any noise or bad smells and basically slept and munched on hay until hometime.

Two things spring to mind. One is that producing a child is the reason we're on this earth

    Absolute nonsense.

God, people are so bitter! I'm not a fan of babies myself, so if someone brings one in I just carry on with my work. It seems to make various other people happy, so who am I to deny them something that brightens up their day?

I've taken my dog in to see the folks at work before; the ones who aren't into dogs just don't bother making a fuss over her.

It doesn't bother me at all. I just say hello, ask how mother and baby are getting on then say I have to get on with some work and engage 'work mode' again. Some people can't, but I can just switch off all going on around me and work.

It's attention seeking. I've never understood it myself, it's not like no one has ever had a baby before is it?

I've been into work a few times but only taken the baby in once. He is nearly 11 months.

I've been at my place of work for 11 years though so I think a few people were genuinely interested to meet my baby? Only a few mind:o

Also my work were so generous when I went off on maternity leave it seems kind of bad etiquette not to visit??

It's one of those things you do? It was all very low key though and I didn't go parading through the office, I just went to my office and saw about 10 of the 30 people who I work with.

It surprises me that people feel so strongly about it?

One of my colleagues has recently had a baby and it was lovely to see her and her wee boy. I think most people are delighted to see a new baby, and those that aren't, are in the minority.

Once again, DS illustrates that it has some of the country's most miserable whingers among it's members.

Babies have ear drum destroying cries. Would be completely impractical in a work setting.

This. It's not something that happens all that often at work, but doing a lap of honor's a bit much. Let people know you'll be in reception or sit in the canteen if there is one.

This, I don't get what the whining is about either.

It happened last Thursday in work to us... she brought the child in during break, no problems ... I just ended up keeping the little lad entertained while the rest talked

Seems people don't understand how many of their work colleagues are NOT their mates but just being polite for sake of professionalism. Workplaces are full of weirdos, psychos and nutters - why anyone would take a small baby into such a place is beyond me??? Be interesting to see what would happen if "Pervy Dave" from the stores came bounding over to have his turn of coo'ing over the poor little mite....

Pervy Dave only works at yours though.
