Films where you prefer the sequel(s) to the original
As there has been a thread started about preferring the originals to sequels, thought this would also be interesting...
For me, obvious ones would be
Godfather 2 - a natural continuation of the story, just brilliant.
Mad Max 2 - I like the first, but the second took it to a whole new level, bigger budget, killer stunts etc.
Blade 2 - again the first was good, but I really preferred this.

I love the original, but for some reason I've always preferred FD2, and I like how it actually ties into the original, rather than the third and fourth films' standalone format. It's an actual continuation, and a good one.
The Evening Star
Clerks II
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Star Trek Wrath of Khan
Back to the Future 2
Superman 2
Aliens
The Two Towers
Batman Returns
The Pink Panther Strikes Again
For A few Dollars More
Hot Shots! Part Deux
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The Bride of Frankenstein
Superman 2
Final Destination 2
Paranormal Activity 4 (probably on my own on that one)
Mad Max 2 easily. Not only a much better film than the first but a film that works as a stand alone. It's the only one in the trilogy I like.
Prefer Sister act 2 to Sister act 1
Prefer Home alone 2 lost in new york to Home alone 1
Prefer Final destination 2 and all the rest to the 1st one
Prefer Toy story 2 to the 1st one
You prefer Mad Max 3 to 2???
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad film, I rewatched it again on blu ray recently...but I thought it tried to be too epic and ambitious and it just didn't come off...plus some obvious stunt casting with Tina Turner, and those annoying bloody kids.
Not even close to superior just popcorn fun movies, you may prefer them, but that is different to them being superior.
Tina I like, but I agree with you about those kids (or any kids!).
Another big downside was the humour in the film, and softening of Max, turning him into some sort of kindergarten teacher...the softer side of the character had already been hinted at in 2, with his protectiveness towards the Feral kid, and there was some sardonic humour in that film, and Bruce Spence's character also provided some humour...but the subject and nature of the movies for me worked better when such elements were kept to a minimum.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban would be my favourite in that franchise, as well as The Bourne Ultimatum.
And also Iron Man 3.
The Two Towers.
Several of the Potter films.
Mighty Ducks 2.
A Shot in the Dark (second entry in the Pink Panther pantheon and really the best of them all).
The Bride of Frankenstein.
Bad Boys 2 (whatcha gonna do...)
Jurassic Park 3
spideman 2
the empire strikes back
lethal weapon 2
friday the 13th 2
hostel 2
rocky 3
Miracle of Morgan's Creek, a sequel to The Great McGinty.
Actually, I'm surprised that Silence of the Lambs hasn't shown up here yet. It's a sequel to Manhunter (Red Dragon), isn't it? (For what it's worth, I prefer Manhunter to Silence of the Lambs, but most seem to prefer otherwise).
The Dark Knight
Star Trek Into Darkness (if we can count that)
I liked The Matrix Reloaded more than The Matrix
The Empire Strikes Back
Aliens
But Terminator 2 is not better than the original. Bigger, more epic, but not as tight and lean a script.
Aliens
Terminator 2
