With Qualifying almost drawing to close and we will so see some of the best playing in the Finals but there quite a lot of players, the best in the world that never played in the finals

Are there any players that you can think of that never got to play for there Country at the World cup

George Best with all the his skill and talent for northern Ireland never played At the finals despite Northern Ireland when they Qualified for two successful Finals but thye seem do quite well without him in 82

Another player to never play in the finals is Ryan Giggs won all the major thorphies (sp) but wales never got close to getting to a final since 1958

George Weah - World Footballer of the Year back in the 90's, but never played in a World Cup with his country Liberia.

Ryan Giggs could barely turn out for Wales at the best of times so he wouldn't have missed much.

Alfredo di Stefano gotta be worth a mention.

so here's a question then ..... if FIFA allowed an "all star" team, representing players who's nations didn't qualify, would that be a good thing?

He's presumably talking about the one against the USSR in Euro 88.

Which is obviously wholly irrelevant to the thread as is the man's inclusion.

No, he missed playing in a World Cup.
But he made up for it by playing in a few Miss Worlds.

Eric Cantona and David Ginola would have played at USA 94 had France not conceded two late goals against Bulgaria to lose their final qualifier 2-1. That was the same qualifying campaign that Wales nearly qualified for. So you could add Mark Hughes and Ian Rush to Ruan Giggs.

France only needed a draw to reach the World Cup, & Ginola was blamed by the French for giving the ball away which led to the Bulgarian winner. Bulgaria went on to finish 4th in the 94 World Cup.

Edit that France v Bulgaria game was 1-1 at half time finished 2-1 to Bulgaria.

Was it Houllier who held a super grudge with Ginola for years (possibly still going)?

According to the book the man who would be king about
Cantona (brilliant book btw) houllier who was French manager at time. Blames cantona for that failure, for losing the ball
This was the start of the much publicised fall out that would getwworse after houllier joined Liverpool

    As for ot

Johnny Giles pretty sure he never played at wc either
