Former X Factor runner-up Olly Murs is in line for a full-time return to the programme next year – as a judge.
Show bosses think his CV makes him the ideal replacement for Gary Barlow, who is leaving at the end of this series.
Olly, 29, has had four No1 singles since he was a contestant in 2009, and his infectious personality has been a big hit with viewers during the two years he hosted spin-off show The Xtra Factor.
He also impressed producers in his X Factor role this year as a guest mentor when he helped Gary select his three acts for the live shows.
An insider said: “We’d love to get Olly back as a young judge to freshen things up.
“He can relate to the other singers like no one else. Crucially, boss Simon Cowell is on good terms with Olly so if he can fit auditions around his career we think he would be perfect.
“Deals won’t be done until the series ends but Olly is a front runner.”
When asked a fortnight ago about his links with X Factor and the chance of joining the panel, Olly said: “I’m always in it... I’m always around so, yes, maybe one day I will be a judge.”
Take That star Gary, 42, confirmed at the weekend he was quitting the show to concentrate on his music.
X Factor said it would not yet comment on next year’s panel.

Grooming of hyped up, easily marketed acts he knows everything about and especially being give one massive leg up from someone you worship.
can anyone imagine him giving a negative critique ?
It's showcasing pre-selected acts in the form of a competition/karaokefest. The judges are pretty irrelevant, and don't do much (if any) actual mentoring - they just show up Saturday and Sunday and read the script. The judges are there (in part) for their likeability. Sharon is pants as a mentor but brilliant as a panto drag queen. That's why she is there, and doing a great job. Louis is a fixture of the show and will be there forever - whatever he says. Nicole is there for the fun factor and Gary is supposed to give it some credibility.
So will Ollie make a good judge? He would be better than some, because he is very likeable. I'd rather have him by a million miles than that awful woman that was on a few years back. Twaddle or Tweedy was her name I think?
Will keep him in the limelight for a bit longer but I can't imagine he'd bring anything different to the show - just another vacant happy-chappy out to prolong his own career.
Still, the audience don't seem too demanding so I'm sure he's fit very well.:D
Agreed, but that was never a "barrier," for Cheryl Cole, Miss Autotune, herself she knows even less..
But in some ways, Mr Murs is ideally suited to the job.
He's already proven, sitting on a roof top in New York, that he's willing to roll over and play the game..
The whole staged charade which involved him pretending to be surprised that Miss Dynamix had only been together 2 weeks and who sounded like they'd been together for years and "wondering," whether one of the other vocal groups who sang much better was a group that Gary had put together was pathetic in the extreme.
Brown nosing like that is bound to get you brownie points in the Cowell camp.

i would rather tulisa (and she was bad) over this clown anyday
How about Steve brookstein? that would be interesting
When the contestants become the judges you know you've jumped the shark a long, long time ago.
Simon?
Naughty, but very true!
What we need, IMO, are people who're not puppets of Cowell and his cronies, but that's never going to happen.
The best I think we could hope for are a bunch of people who actually know their stuff musically, who have really walked the walk in the business..who can play and/or sing and who have a body of work behind them which commands respect.
Olly Murs isn't there yet, IMO and possibly never will be.
Mind you, I thought that Barlow was a major coup and what a let down that's been..
I thought, when he had a go at Cowell, over making sure he didn't stuff things up for Leona Lewis when Take That were performing on the show, I thought "what a guy."
I really thought he'd stir things up and be a shining example of integrity..instead he's as much a puppet for the system as any of the others..
Olly Murs would be no different..
Rich.

At the end of the day, the judges are just puppets and they are only there to put celebrity faces on the producers decisions... and Olly would certainly be an asset to the show in that way. So yeh, why not, I'd love to have him on my TV every weekend!
There is already talk of Olly Murs, I can see Leona Lewis and Alexander Burke being mentioned, perhaps even someone from JLS!!
Its not as if they havent got the time for it except for Olly, their careers are exactly on fire.
I also think that most of the serious musicians out there know that "The X Factor" is the biggest scam out there and has nothing to do with finding and nurturing talent and for the majority of them they don't want to be associated with it.
