If they think they gave an accurate account of the meeting, why exactly are they apologising for speaking to the media?
Their line appears to be that they said nothing wrong, but what they did say has been misunderstood and the fact this misunderstanding has been allowed to occur was in part due to the nature of them speaking to the media in the way they did. Ie, not releasing a considered printed statement some time after the meeting. So it looks like they're saying sorry for that.

They must be even sorrier that Mitchell's wife told him to record the meeting.:D

That's about it, they're not going to apologise to Andrew Mitchell !
it's like when a kid accidentally breaks a window and spins a semi plausible lie, well i went like this and i tried to kick a ball and a stone was kicked up and then the window was broken.

It's almost as if there's a weird kind of parallel universe where facts can safely be ignored. Or if that's not possible, safely reinterpreted.

they're hiding behind procedure and systems.
Furious is the word.
Deep enough to bury them completely

I think its Mark Reckless.
Steady:)
With eight officers under arrest and Starmer looking at the facts they are not going to say anything that appears to be an admission of guilt.

And the wind blew the stone through the window.:D
