Went to see one of my fave horrors on the big screen for halloween and was surprised at the laughter all the way through the film. This once scary film seems like a comedy film to today's audiences . Nancy's drunken mother certainly stole the show I would say

I always found ANOES (1-3) the most scary films I have ever watched. I'm 30 now and every now and then I would have a nightmare where Freddy appears (sad, I know!)
There was just something about the premise of never being able to sleep again without constantly having Freddy come after you in a scary warehouse type place that just resonated with me lol
Nancy is also my favorite Horror film heroine of all time and I was devastated when he got her in the third movie
"Welcome to prime time bitch!" - one of my favourite movie quotes, even if by this stage the franchise was becoming a joke and too commercial.
Also, still cant believe there was Freddy Kruger pyjamas for kids! Kids wearing pyjamas with a fictional paedophile and child murderer face sprawled all over them lol imagine the outrage nowadays!
There was never any reference to him being a paedophile in the original series.
Ok remove peadophile from my point.
Which does kind of imply he was a paedophile since when has anyone ever heard of a a serial "child killer" that wasn't also a paedophile.
True. I remember it being heavily insinuated that he was a pedophile even when I was younger and the films were being released.
There were several scenes where Freddy Kruger was quite lewd and sexually suggestive with some of the characters. Like for example when Nancy answered the phone and his tongue came out of the receiver end and tried to lick her, and the bath scene where his clawed hand comes up from underneath the water inbetween the victim's legs.
But I suppose it could get away with it because the 'kids' in the Freddy Kruger films are more in their late teens, which would have certainly been more shocking if they were preteens. Those scenes would then appear to be more obvious.
The idea is in there, but it's more subliminal, similar to some of the subliminal themes in Alien.
He's creepy and disgusting and I think a large part of that isn't just down to the excellent performance by Robert Englund, it will also be down to the subtext which is barely hidden under the surface.
I think when we all first watched this most of us all assumed he was a paedophile.
I think some people take watching films well too seriously!
Great film though.
The remake was such a wasted oppertunity. Coud have been really creative and cool, but ended up as just more pointless rubbish. A real disappointment.
Watched the re-make as well & didn't find it impressive at all. You can't beat Robert Englund playing Freddy Krueger. The remake didn't look as realistic compared to the original.
It just doesn't work without him. Even the rubbish films in the series are made watchable soley for him.
My form tutor had asked people to bring in videos and we would vote on which one to watch. Unsurprisingly the winner was the original Nightmare On Elm Street
Does that kind of thing happen nowadays?
