The reviews talk about using it at home but does that automatically translate to the big screen? I'm new to this whole 3D thing and have never seen a movie in 3D but it's hard to see Gravity in a non 3D showing so thought I might as well.
Oh, and in case you're wondering why I won't use the cinema's, I don't fancy getting everybody's nose grease on me...

Take a small packet of anti-bacterial wipes with you to the cinema if you're that anal.
You need the 'passive' variety like those used by LG for their Cinema 3D sets.
Should be less than a pound on Ebay.
Do you mean like these?
The only nose grease on them will be your own.
Not all.
Some cinemas do use the active shutter glasses.
I hope they clean them properly between screenings.
They are supposed to disinfect them (at least that's what they claim).
I believe the shutter glasses give a sharper image..but the image can be darker (if they forget to adjust the brightness). The better cinema in our area did start off with shutter glasses (but recently switched to passive. I guess it just worked out cheaper in the long run).
