Can mixed gender pop groups still be successful?

It's all boybands and girlbands all the time but in so many years, there hasn't been a successful prop group consisting of both genders.
I know Six-D attempted it two years ago but their single only charted at 34 and they then split.
I personally think it would be quite refreshing to see a group consisting of both males and females do well again.
Anyone else lol?

The Luminites are also trying to crack it I think and Karmin had a top 10 last year
But I agree! Swamped with girl bands and boy bands
There's also Krewella who are popular in the US but since the male only produces the songs I wouldn't count them.
Mainstream pop acts is what I mean, but none are mixed gender, whereas this time 10 years ago, it would have been more common for them to have been mixed gender.
I'm just curious as to whether the public will still buy in to a mainstream pop act consisting of both genders. Even if they released good music.
A lot of rock bands are mixed-gender, like London Grammar
and Chrvches.
Are we talking S Cub 7 or Fleetwood Mac here or just the former (type)?
I agree
I agree that if they got the music and the look right, there's no reason why they couldn't be successful. I think you'd have to go down the Liberty X route, of pop with an "edge". It would have to be as credible as pure pop can be, so that the lazy media don't try to compare them to the likes of Steps.
Yes thank you! This was what I was meaning lol I don't mean they need to be cheesy! That is actually validating my point even more that everyone's immediate response was that it must be a "cheese fest" like Steps or S Club. I was menaing mainstream like pop acts now, which aren't considered cheesy. Why is there not any mixed gender ones and could they be successful. I was just unsure if the general public wouldn't buy into one...
