So my first impressions (this is going back from 10am this morning so I hope I remember everything):
The packaging is simple but small. We worked out that Sony could pack *twice* as many PS4s onto a shipping crate than MS could do with their XB1s (54 vs 27) - judging by the photos on the internet.
The console hardware quality is very good - expected no doubt from Sony. It's a console that is made to look great wherever you put it in your setup. It looks so elegant. My only complaint is that there is no USB port on the rear - this is where ideally I'd want to charge my controller form.
Setup was fine - apart from not being able to get into PSN on the setup wizard. Skipping and trying to access Playstation Live and signing in from there worked first time strangely enough.
I upgraded my HDD to a 1tb Seagate SSHD, and that worked fine. Safebooted and updated the 900mb 1.51 software. I get the overriding feeling that Sony have learnt a lot from the last generation both in terms of UI, software updating and feature sets.
Bought and downloaded Flower, Super Motherload and Trine 2. Downloaded Resogun and Contrast. Very quick - but I have fibre so it would be. Played Madden 25, broadcasted that via my Twitch account. Again. Very good quality, and it worked easy. Started playing Battlefield 4. Enjoyed it.. played it twice for a long period of time. Both times resulted in a crash to UI. Bad product. EA/Dice need to fix it pronto.
Overall, I feel kind of overwhelmed by it all - there is so much to do, so much quality to take in.. Once I settle down and stop with the excitement that I've actually got a PS4, then I can start actually gaming with it.
Also - bonus: The Internet Browser is excellent. I'm watching the Dreamhack Starcraft 2 tournament via Twitch.tv - and it's streaming in the best quality. I was considering getting a new HTPC soon because my old Mac Mini couldn't do that properly. The PS4 can. So it may have already saved me £500. Sweet.
UI is awesome.
Console is quiet.
Blu-ray makes an cool sound when spinning up/down.
Controller speaker is surprisingly good.
Triggers are perfect.
Remote Play works flawlessly.
Download speeds are top notch.
Well i havent got a Ps4 although i was tempted judging by the remarks that makes me want one now even more. Im glad the Internet browser is good thats a big plus because the ps3 is well lets say woeful. So i think once Amazon and Co get stock levels back up i will be getting one. Just now i have My PS3 to keep me going which should be ok for a couple of months.
The controller is very good, which was one of my main bugbears with the PS3, I loathed the standard DS. This is MUCH better. Two things caught me by surprise, having listened to hardly anything about the hardware - the swipe, works pretty well on KZ, and the speaker - impressed when it kicked in on Resogun.
Spent a few hours on KZ:S, graphics are flawless, runs very smooth, very atmospheric. Impressive.
Signed up for 3 months of PS+, downloaded Resogun and Contrast - Resogun is incredibly addictive. Contrast, is a gorgeous game. Love everything about it. Download speeds were near instantaneous with fibre.
Much prefer the UI to the XB1's fooked up metro panels.
After further play, I can say I honestly prefer this to my Xbox One. The X1 is a great machine in its own right but I'll just be using that for the exclusives like Forza, Dead Rising, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive etc and everything else will be PS4. It just feels like a higher quality product & easier to use.
The voice commands work well too with the camera but the PQ is a million times better on Kinect
I manged to have a few minutes playing on the PS4 yesterday, the controller is a notable improvement over the DS3, though it feels quite big in the hands compared to X1 and the triggers still feel a bit halfhearted compered to 360 but still much improved over DS3 and better travel. I only got to play some Killzone but it looked quite nice, the lighting in particular.

It's a much closer call between the controllers this time around. For me, it was an easy win for the 360 controller last gen, just couldn't get used to the DS3 at all. The triggers were woeful, and the convex thumbsticks annoyed me. The overall dimensions were also too small for me, I was far too used to the 360 controller's size at that point.
The DS4, is far, far better. There's not really much in it now between that and the XB1 controller. Personally, and this is just personal preference, I still prefer the XB triggers.
Only game I've tried so far is Ghosts, and the graphics were shocking, but that's not the PS4's fault. Have got rid of it now as it shouldn't look like that on next gen.
So only game I have now is Killzone which I'll have a go at. Anyone suggest another game to try?

Ghosts on the One and PS4 just looks like a more polished/shiny version compared to the 360/PS3 version
FIFA looks good, have got Assassins Creed, which I'm going to try in a second, and would of had BF4 if Royal Mail didn't screw up!

Some X1 game play I saw was sub PS3 exclusive in quality
Ghosts on XB1 is almost indistinguishable from the 360 version. I didn't even bother with a PS4 copy. Poor game whatever the platform IMO.
I got my copy bundled with my X1 but already had it delivered for PS4. Both of them have been sold on ebay & I didn't even open the PS4 version. Absolute shite game

Ghosts is sh1te and I can't stand BF. Hoping that KZ multi will see me through until March.

Going from the FIFA demo I downloaded, the gameplay and match visuals are hardly any different from the last gen version - they have just tarted up the stadium shots and 3D replays

It's little touches with Fifa, both in terms of visuals and audio. it definitely makes for a more polished game than the previous-gen versions, but ultimately yes, not a massive step-up.
Ghosts, OTOH, there's very little there at all to distinguish one version from the other. I had hoped after playing the previous-gen version that there might be enough small changes to make a difference, but there's hardly anything. Certainly not enough to transform a sh1te game into anything other than a sh1te game.

I have figured out how to get rid of that annoying menu music thankfully!!!!
i like that the music plays through the controller when i play flower it compliments the game well
the controller is comfortable to use
i like being able to go back to where i left off on a game
been playing AC blackflag the graphics have definitely improved and the touchpad is quite easy to use to navigate the map
can't wait to see what Uncharted 4 looks and plays like

Feel free to add me: MrkBrd
Will be playing B4, Killzone, Fifa & Ghosts mainly.
Loving my PS4 so far. Having had a 360 for the last 6 years I was concerned I would struggle with the controller but the DS4 is actually perfect.

Aside from it being a bit sharper I didn't see any graphical improvements. Not yet anyway.
With your name you should be addicted to Resogun!

Yet to try the Xbox One controller though.

Yeah, I was much dissapointed when I saw the ending is the same as MW2 lol that's bad.
Well, I have £40, so it's either NFS Rivals, or Battlefield 4.
Saying that, I only liked NFS The Run, and I already have a FPS to play.
