I'd love to be able to walk to work. Even up to an hour.
Absolutely, and I love walking, I walk everywhere but just too far for work, it takes me an hour on train from home to office, If I walk it would take two hours. I'm not doing that early morning.
I usually walk, so nothing, but if I decide to get a bus it's £1.45 for a single ticket or £2.50 for a return, whereas a taxi is £3.50 each way.
taxis sound cheap where you are, how far`s it? a less than three mile journey to the next but one village is £2.10 for a single, it was £8 last time i got a taxi. anyone who wants to make the 6 miles from there to town is charged £6.70 for a day ticket, what a bloody rip off.
I dont know because, sometimes drive, sometimes get a lift and sometimes take a bus and try to walk it at least twice a week. Walking takes about 50 minutes and when the weather is good I do walk it more than twice a week.
I walk, so it costs me nowt. If it's lashing down I get the bus which is a quid. What with the bonkers one way system in this town it is far, far quicker to walk than get the bus.
Interesting though, that here in Leeds First are bringing prices DOWN from Sunday so a monthly bus pass for use in Leeds only will be £52 down from £63.
Monday to Thursday if I'm not working from home I'm out visiting clients for which I get paid expenses(45 p/mile for the first 10k miles, then it's 25 p/mile). Friday I do a second job which costs about £6 petrol.
My travelcard is £2072 a year. Taking into consideration holidays, bank holidays, weekends and my compressed days, it works out to the equivalent of roughly £8.30 a day.
I don't work but my husband does - he has a 20-30 min car journey each way every day, six days a week. Costs him about £3.50 a week in petrol.
He must have a very economical car!
I had a similar journey about five years ago and it was costing me at least £40 a week in petrol. Part of the reason why I changed jobs was to save money and I now live a 10 minute walk away from the office

The train was £3.30 return but may have gone up by 10p from yesterday. Cheaper than driving into town and paying to park.
The bus is about £4.00 for a day ticket. Years since I took the bus.
