Why doesn't he just ask John and Mary who they don't know in the audience?
But who's to say the Mayfly Man is among the guests? There are many other people at the venue.

That might not narrow it down too much as people have a plus 1.

    Why are you so confused?

Are you not aware that different people have different tastes? Your tastes do not match those people you have heard praising it. Seems straight forward enough.

That's why no television show pulls in 100% of the viewing audience. I'm told that some people even like Mrs Brown's Boys. :o

    No shit Sherlock!

So 89 minutes of drivel for one "huge plot clue" for the final episode? I think that's a poor pay-off.
As I said, I'm NOT saying it's not a poor episode - I've seen the ending already and it's still not great - but I am pointing out that there is some narrative point to it. If you haven't spotted it, I'm sure you're part of a very large majority. The clue is in plain sight, but it's pretty well concealed.

I'm not saying it's not a lightweight episode - it's distinctly average - but I am saying it's not as much of a filler story as it may first appear. There is a huge plot clue for the finale hidden in plain sight.

Which is fine I just wish they'd made the episode it was in a bit more point-y and a bit less pointless :D

Maybe someone will die of boredom, as a result of this never-ending speech.

Yes very weird. I don't watch Dr Who, but he is a bit Dr Who (ey) most of the BBC must be on coke and think everyone speaks strange and in riddles and fast and then slow.

I don't disagree. But clearly Mary is a key part of this season's narrative. We'll discover more next week, no doubt. Of course, that doesn't make this week's episode any better!

Having been told last week that I was wrong to be so dismissive of Sherlock, I'm so happy to see here and Twitter so much criticism of tonight's episode

I was content watching Poirot on ITV3, a much better experience it would appear than putting up with Moffat masturbating over his latest Messiah.

I love how some people just despise the Moffat/Gatiss style but keep coming back for more.

Why not all go and watch ITV3?

    Ten Million viewers baby!

That's so clever and funny what you did there, so much funnier then when it was done back in post #2008.

Anyway, what exactly has caused your confusion? I assumed that the fact that other people could like a program you didn't like was new to you, but clearly you are aware of this fact.

So why should it cause you such concern this time? The viewing figures for Sherlock of 10 million mean that 40 million are not watching it. So anyone who doesn't like it is in the majority and those that like it are the majority.

So why is everyone getting so upset that a minority like something they don't?

That's the chamber of Cardiff city hall I think.

The yellow room and the gardens outside is The Belvedere in Holland Park.
