No Mark Halsey again on BT sport live tonight. Has he now left BT Sport completely?

They didn't discuss the Vidic red card and Rafael tackle..

Maybe because those 2 incidents didn't impact on the game?

They did. The three were asked in turn right at the start of the analysis what the punishments for both should have been.

What did they say, especially Schmeichel?

I know that Dwight Yorke would have been adamant that they barely deserved yellows!

This isn't the first PL match from the Hawthorns that's been shown live on either Sky or BT this season, is it?

They all agreed with each other, that one wasn't a red card and that the other was.

Surprised Hawthorne in a way as he did first leg of Man City? May well mean that it is Leslie/ Mann tomorrow

I'm sure I remember West Brom v Arsenal being shown on a Super Sunday fairly early in the season but that might have been the only one before tonight.

    Of course, I remember now.

Even so, having only two home games shown by nearly the end of January must be the lowest of any club in the PL, mustn't it?

And V Aston Villa too. I wouldn't have thought that three would be that bad. There must be a few teams near the bottom who are near that figure.

The team with the least number of home games picked by Sky (including February fixtures) is Fulham with just one (against Aston Villa, Dec 8). What may be surprising is that Liverpool come next with only two games chosen (Man Utd on Sep 1 and Aston Villa on Jan 18). This is of course balanced out by nine away games being picked - only Man Utd and Tottenham have had as many as that.

Typically, you tend to find that the leading clubs have fewer home matches picked and more away games, and conversely the lower sides get more home games. In fact the only 'top' team with more home games televised than away are Arsenal (six at home, five away). This is a result of 'small' team vs 'big' team looking more attractive than the other way round - see FA Cup thread for excessive discussion of that!

Note these stats are for Sky games only - BT not included.

Is it just me or are the cameras seemingly obsessed with showing the managers, I know that interest in football managers has increased rapidly over the last couple of years, and I don't have a problem with that as such, but there has to be boundaries surely?

One reason for that particularly will probably be, If I recall correctly, at the start of the season I saw that, as part of the new TV Contract, every ground now has camera positions facing the dugouts focused just on the Managers. The article mentioned Fulham in particular as they had to take seats away, and the camera positions block the view of a number of spectators.

If you had to guess if any Match of the Day commentators would be absent during the Winter Olympics, like Barry Davies always used to be, you probably wouldn't have picked Steve Bower.

Peter Schmeichel always annoys me when he does punditry, consistently interrupting everyone else to add absolutely nothing of interest.

It is a good comparison Steve Bower and Barry Davies, Barry Davies is the best sports commentator I have ever heard, of the current lot Bower is as good as anyone, possibly bar Darke.

Far easier to listen too than the biased, full of himself Tyler, or the similar Champion or Tyldesley BBC bores like Mowbray and Wilson.

Steve is a breath of fresh air in an era when somehow the best commentators, presenters and pundits don't get the top gigs. Brown nosing and sympathy or full support for Liverpool appear the main requirements.

    here is a question,

the next set of tv fixtures have yet to be released , but one of the fixtures will be the manchester derby at old trafford 1st march weekend ,

lets say sky get to show it over bt , but its then cancled as there is a possablty both of them could reach the capital cup final on sunday 2 march , (ironcly the same weekend they are suppose to play each other),can sky still show it in midweek , or does it have to be passed over to bt as they have the midweek rights ????

    Sky would show it midweek.

BT's midweek rights are only for full midweek rounds. Games rearranged for midweek due to cups etc. stay with whichever broadcaster picked it (if at all, and if they want to keep it).

Especially Souness, they both are different class to anyone else used by either channel

Souness is a fantastic pundit, although I would now say I think Neville is better.

As always its all about opinions, I was talking to a friend on Sunday and he said he thought Souness was the weak part of the Sky set up on Sunday and found him boring!!! :o

I must admit I had Leslie down as a dead cert for the West Brom game last night with Hawthorne doing the 2nd leg of West Ham tonight.

Once again another opportunity for a prem game for Leslie goes by.

I'd agree it's all about opinions.
I'd have to say on Sounness - I haven't found him particularly brilliant as a pundit this season.
I enjoyed his punditry in recent seasons - but I don't feel when I've seen him as a pundit this season that he's been particularly insightful or added anything extra as a pundit.
Whereas I think Carragher for example has improved throughout the season.

Also, off-topic but IIRC Ruud Guillit (spelling?) was a fairly regular pundit on Sky in recent years - yet hasn't appeared much (if at all) this season - with Hoddle appearing more regularly this season when Guillit normally would have before.

It was probably mentioned before but does anyone know why Guillit isn't on Sky so much anymore?

Also, a random note from another thread that I thought might interest some here.
New Sky Sports signing Kate Abdo will apparently be presenting the Coppa Italia tonight for Sky.
I haven't really seen much of her Sky Sports News appearances so far but it'll be interesting to see how she performs on a live match.

sky have lots of football presenters as it is, why not use one of them, instead of getting a new one in..

I will go with either Daniel Mann or possibly Gary Weaver as the commentator.
