I didn't like the cheating wife storyline last night, wanted to be like good for you working, the suspicious husband should do one, cuz' you're doing a good job earning your own money , running a home.., then it turned out the husband was right to be suspicious all along cuz she was a great slag afterall....:(
and i struggled to have any sympathy tbh, although he didn't like it , she was 'allowed' to work. a lot less downtrodden then a lot of the women in the programme.
And when he first saw the baby, where was his support? he was looking forward to a fourth kid.
Sigh. Really? Nothing like a bit of **** shaming… :roll eyes:
Just wondering, if Shelagh can't get pregnant, which some of us think, might she and Doc be able to adopt the little coloured baby? or is that all too soon? Has baby gone to foster home or adoptive parents?
My recording chopped off the end. Doris was just going out of her house when a neighbour asked her where her baby was...Did I miss much? How did Doris explain her baby's absence?
I do think calling the wife a slag is pretty harsh. She made a mistake and she will have to live with it for the rest of her life. The husband took it badly, though no one would expect him to take the news well, that said I was afraid for little Carol for a second.
It was interesting that Jenny Agutter nun, (can't remember her name) did suggest that mum keep quiet about the baby possibly not being the husband's before realising that wouldn't be possible.
I hoped that the doctor and Shelagh might adopt her, but they didn't even consider it did they? Shame, it would have been nice to keep the little mite close.
Sad episode.

The son just said "No baby". Then Grown-up Jenny voice-over said something, as she always does.:D

because I expect they still think they can have their own all ok, so don't need to think of it...yet!

The baby was adopted by a couple in Durham. I thought it would be nice if they adopted her, but then I thought it wouldn't be a good idea because Doris would see her frequently, and her husband, and it would just be too much of a reminder for both of them. I just hope that Doris was safe after that He didn't sound like a very nice man.

What an horrendous thing to say! By that definition, all women who have an affair, however brief, outside of marriage are slags.
She made a mistake...a very human thing to do. She will have to live losing her daughter and living with a bully of a husband. Think she will more than pay for that mistake. Think it portrayed her agony very well indeed.
Remember these stories are based on real events. So if in real life Carol is sent away then she will be in the programme. I was rooting for the doctor to adopt her too, then I remembered it isn't a soap! This has just made me think, I wonder if the baby ever did track down her mother? Or if she's out there now with no idea the story of her birth is a TV drama!
I adore Miranda. Find her hilarious - but she is brilliant in this as well. My favourite character.
How gorgeous was Trixies new hair cut!!?
Not surprised she got annoyed with Jenny (who is generally irritating anyway) though. I can't see any reason why she was chosen over Trixie and in fact if Trixie is the senior nurse she should have got it - she is damn good at her job as far as I can see.
I am finding Sheelagh a little sugary sweet this series I must admit. Though its clear she will have problems getting pregnant. Not sure why she isn't still a midwife but I don't feel its so important to her. I'm very glad Chummy is working part time - her giving up her job was quite devastating to me - it is definitely her calling and watching her overcome her lack of confidence was such a great storyline.
Practice at the time was for married women to give up work once they became mothers.
Over the "****-shaming", most husbands who had been cuckolded WOULD regard their wife as a slag, even to this day. Worst thing you can do to a husband - his hard-earned resources going to raise a kid that's not his. It's a visceral reaction. We see it all the time on Jeremy Kyle...

Consider that sexual politics were MUCH more conservative back then. Expected to marry as virgins (for both sexes), one-and-done for life.
cheaters and philanderers are the lowest to begin with never mind lying to her husband for nearly 9 months, thinking he has his own kid on the way, bully or not no-on deserves that.
**** shaming only applies to people judging women on a healthy sex life, cheating does not come into that bracket, cheaters and liars deserve to be judged tbh.
obviosuly some people disagree thats fine but thats how i feel.

Oh I know. And a lot of women were depressed because of it. Its clear Chummy was bored out of her mind and felt she's lost her sense of purpose - so I'm very glad in this they found a way to let her come back.
Really? The 'worse thing you can do?' It's a terrible thing to do certainly, to deceive someone in that way. But plenty of men care and raise children that are not biologically their own. The point is that they should have a choice in whether or not they choose to do so. And why the assumption that the child will be raised on his hard earned cash - particularly in modern day society?
Now in the context of the show - the women was clearly trapped in an unhappy marriage and she made a mistake. Was it the right thing to do - of course not. But we're all just human.

Except it doesn't. Because men who cheat are never called a **** or a ****. An asshole perhaps. But even then, a lot of people will still condemn the woman he slept all the more.
Calling a woman a **** or a slag is nothing more than woman hating. Plain and simple. Its a term I personally abhor and one that I never use and never will. Men (and women) call other women sluts for any number of reasons - such as the clothes they choose to wear and often has nothing to even do with how many people they have or haven't slept with.
There is no such thing as a **** - its nothing more than a nasty, misogynistic word used to shame, judge and attack women and unfortunately one that is embedded in our society.

Don't be ridiculous , the terms man slag , man **** etc exist,
Its not woman hating either, its cheat hating which I don't think many loose sleep over.
I never used the term **** either, the only problem with silly made up terminology like '**** shaming' people take it far too literally.

There is no equivalent insult for a man. “Man ****” is a modified term - the implication being that the man is acting like a **** i.e acting like a woman who sleeps around.
'****' isn't a word for cheat hating, as you put it, it's a word for women hating. If you really believe **** shaming is 'silly made up terminology' then there's really not much more to say.

A one-night stand. Hardly makes her a slag.
I am but not brilliant😉

well she didn't actually say anything just left it up to the neighbour to draw her own conclusions
didn't mean that to be in bold, sorry, sounds like I shouted!
